Guys, I’m building a tamiya kit and they call for these two paints to be mixed for a part on the model. Any idea as to what color they are trying to duplicate here? Thanks.
Dana
Dana,
Sounds like they are making an approximation of Titanium. I’ve done the same thing, myself. I can highly recommend the Testor’s Jet Exhaust, MM4676. Great for airbrushing, and looks alot like the burnt titanium color on jet nozzles. Plus, no mixing!

What is the part that is painted that color?
Mike
Hmmm… Tamiya makes a Titanium color paint – X-31.
I have used that same mix in a Tamiya Auto model – a ferrari I think – for those orangish rubber suspension boots.
If that’s what it’s for, it does end up looking very much like the actual boots – I saw some at a car show. [:D]
Actually, the model is a motorcycle. As for the part, I really don’t know. It appears to be a tank of some kind attached to the inside of the frame.
It sounds like they are trying to replicate an anodized orange type of color such as you see on some of the street bikes.
Mike
Hmmm…I think that may be it, MikeV. I’m gunna keep looking into it more. Thanks guys.
Do a search on the web for photos of the bike you are building and maybe you can find some good references for what that part looks like.
