I bought a model recently and the chrome plating on it was done rather poorly. Is there anything available that can safely remove the plating so that I may apply my own?
I’m probably going to use S&J metalizers and, on larger areas, Bare Metal Foil or similar.
To the best of my knowledge, bleach has been used succesfully, as well as extensively, for this purpose. Just let the said parts soak in the bleach overnight, then peel the chrome off and/or scrub using an old toothbrush.

Simple Green does a good job of removing chrome, and doesn’t harm the plastic, plus it doesn’t have a bad smell!

You can also use amonia, put your plated parts in it, and mostly after 1hour everything is gone.
Watch out it doesn’t smel good.

I have used Lysol kitchen cleaner with great sucess. Place the part in the cleaner for like 24hrs and it removes the chrome and the bonding agent.
In the UK there is a brand of bleach called Domestos. Ammonia based, so take care. It removes chrome from plastic in seconds. Wash down with water after and carry on modelling.
