Chrome Plating

What is the best way to remove chrome plating on plastic parts? Will Easy-Off oven cleaner work?

Hi,

Oven cleaner has removed everything that I have tried to strip including “chrome”

Most times I have to apply multiply coats of oven cleaner to get the parts totally stripped.

Good luck!

Soakin the parts in a cleaner called Simple Green works pretty good for me. Just got finished stripping Tamiya’s chrome plated Mig-15. Didn’t like the chrome but it was on the clearence rack for 10 bucks. Took 4 hours of soaking to get the entire kit down to the bare plastic.

I use a specialty product for removing paint/chrome which is designed for plastics and sold at my LHS. Not as cheap as the above mentioned methods but works great for me! Its call CHAMELEON Model paint stripper…$9.99 for 16fl ounces.

Hey boats, the best thing I found to strip chrome is Liquid Plummer. Put a little into a small tupperware bowl, put your parts in there and cover . In about a half an hour, chromes gone and the parts can be washed. Use some small pliers or tweezers removing/handling the parts from the container until after you wash them.

Thanks Gang
I will keep all those suggestiong in mind. I have Easy-Off and Simple Green so I will try those first.
