Chrome and Brass Paint

I am building several antique auto kits and want to repaint the chrome and brass parts after stripping the manufacturer’s orignal finishes. I prefer acrylics and will be using an airbrush. Any suggestions for specific paint(s)?

Any of todays acrylics are very good, the only thing that I would sugest is that you prime the parts with a good quality auto paint primer first. I use a flat gray as it seems to be the best to cover.
Cheers and Good Luck!

I’ve had pretty good results with some of Citadel / Games Workshop metallic paints.

The names given to some of the colors are unique, and IMO misleading. Their “Boltgun Metal” works beautifully as “Steel” however their “Brazen Brass” is more of a copper while their “Burnished Gold” is more like brass.

They are acrylic and I have thinned them for airbrushing using isopropyl alcohol with no problems.

For chrome you might consider using some of the metallizers as they are going to give a bright, shiny finish, although it is somewhat delicate. I’ve used Testors with some luck, but have heard that AlClad is better.
