I started this kit about 6 months ago and finished it up finally this evening. Thanks to all here who provided links and assistance with this build[t$t] I build the kit pretty much straight OOB except for drilling out the exhaust pipes, the air intake, and adding some mesh screen there as well. It’s not a bad kit at all, but the instructions are a little weak in placing some parts. I used Polly Scale paints for most of the finish.

Steve, I went with basic techniques for weathering: pin washes in recesses and around raised details, and dry brushing on highlights, and in simulating wear on selected areas. Nothing fancy at all. The biggest “lightening” occurred once I applied the final top coat of Humbrol Matt Clear. That stuff lightened up and altered the OD more than I thought it would.
Artworks, I was not much of a fan of the 47 until this build. I learned a bit about it in both the research and just from looking at the kit parts during the build. I certainly gained appreciation and affection during the process.
A final note to this build. Last night I took this critter to the local monthly IPMS Chapter Meeting and entered it in to the contest. I honestly expected another build of mine to do better, but this one took 3rd place in the Master Category! HUAH! [proplr] I was surprised at: 1) it did so well, especially considering the competition, and 2) a LOT of compliments on the bubble
Nice work Stikpusher, I love seeing these “bubble” copters. Any plans for her to go onto a diorama? Tempting to have it in Korea with doctors running out get stretchers, or even landed in combat to pick up from medics!

At least Stik this kit would be good for a novice Helicopter builder to get started on.
1.) not a very expensive kit still cheaper than the Academy H-13.
2.) Parts count is not very high not like the Academy H-13 which has more parts to it which means more complicated. The revell kit could be built in one day at the most maybe 2 if you take into account painting.
Yes, it is certainly a good inexpensive just above entry level kit. My delays in construction came more from painting and life issues than anything else. Plus I do take my time in almost every build these days…
You could always recreate the scene from MASH where Hawkeye is lowered to where a soldier is lying wounded in a foxhole and Hawkeye is still dressed as Santa.
If I do one day make a Korean War diorama, it will be based upon something real in tribute to the guys who really fought and bled and died there, rather than a fictional TV show.
