[banghead]I want to build a 1/35 German heavy for my next build, and I just can’t seem to be able to decide on which one. I have built several Tamiya kits and would like to try one from another maker. So guys its time for you to make my mind up for me. After reading this forum for a few years I’m sure I will be steered in the right direction[bow]
Any of the Dragon 3-in-1 Tigers would be a good choice. And if you’re open to Russian armor, Trumpeters KV series are fantastic. They’re also cheaper than Dragon’s kits and are easier to find.
we can’t pick for you, you’ll end up losing intrest and never finish! IMO the best thing for you to do is read a book, watch a movie, spark some intrest by search the internet. Then stand in front of your stash, or you LHS if you don’t have a stash, and something is bound to jump out at ya! This works much better than people that don’t even know your intrests picking your next kit!
I think the old saying goes: You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friends nose…or their next kit for them. Or something like that. [:-^]
But, if you want a suggestion, you should try the Tiger from Academy. It’s relatively cheaper and has a pretty good interior. It’s a fairly basic kit where you can hone your skills before jumping into the world of after-market accessories and expensive kits.
Just MHO.
How about the new AFV Club Sturmtiger. That’s a pretty heavy piece of artillery. Or maybe one of the DML offerring such as their King Tiger Henschel turret “Battle of the Bulge” version with several figures. Or maybe one of their Jagdtiger.
I would have to agree with the Academy Tiger I, or maybe the DML King Tiger. Both of these kits are fairly good, have great detail, go together well, aren’t too expensive, and are both all plastic. The DML Tiger I kits are fantastic, but IMO you want to get some experience with ‘simpler’ DML kits before you tackle one with such a large parts count, and a plethora of photoetch parts.
It’s not a heavy tank by WWII German standards, but you can’t go wrong with an early Panther.I personally like the ‘D’ model.
How about the Elefant Premium or Ferdinand Premium from Dragon. The Ferdinand doesn’t need zimmerit either. They are huge and go together pretty easily, especially since they come with improved magic tracks. Also Dragons later Jagdtiger with aluminum barrel and pe fenders is an awesome kit.
Yeah, I’m building the DML Premium Elefant, and it’s my first armor kit I plan on finishing completely. Thus far it’s been a dream to work on. Plus you get some PE to work with and an aluminum barrel all included.
Pics please!
I’m gonna go out on a limb here…
German heavy metal but not the usual stuff? Okay, how about…
Italeri’s Schwerewermachtschlepper, armored version, mounting the Panzerwerfer 42? I believe there are AM tracks available for it, and room to superdetail the rocket battery.
Or what about Dragon’s E-100 superheavy? Or, if you have fairly deep pockets, Trumpeter’s Karl Gerat 040 – build up one of the mega-heavy morters, like Thor or Loki?
On the lighter side, Dragon did the Tauchpanzer III – the submersible version of the Panzer III used for very deep fording ops. They Panzer IV 3-in-1 is jaw-dropping. And AFV Club have the SdKfz 251/22, mounting the PAK 40 (was it? Can’t remember!)
Happy puzzling, I’m sure you’ll build something spectacular!
Cheers,

I’m having a blast w/my Dragon JagdTiger Henshell. Magic Track, Alum Barrel, nice amount of PE. No crew, but oh well.
I have to find some batteries for my camera. It eats them faster than I go through Cadbury eggs at Easter.
Thanks for all of your imput[bow] I decided on DML Ferdinand Premium. It should be arriving any day and I Can’t wait to sink my teeth into it[BG]
Excellent choice going with a DML Premium. Just take your time and don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of stufff in the box. You won’t be using half of them except for the spares box. [:D]

Excellent choice. Look forward to your build.
Let us know how it turns out. Be sure to post pics. Hey, what’s the difference between the Ferdinand and the Elephant?
Semper Fi,

Hi Chris. With the experience learned from Kursk, the Germans added a bow MG, a new cupola and zimmerit to the Elefant. The Russian infantry was able to sneak up on it’s blind sides and take them out. Many of them served in Italy.
Trumpeter Sturer Emil, interesting, accurate, without doubt unique, and my God is it cheap.
Terry.
Enigma 1,
There is only 1 choice if you want a really HEAVY 1/35 kit. The Karl/Loki Morsers. I have one 60% complete. It is impressive. It even comes with a solid aluminum shell! It is a large kit with a bunch of pieces. Plan on spending several weeks on this one. Of course the 1:35 Leopold railway gun is bigger, but you need a whole lot more room to display it!
