Check out this deal I got !

I was picking up some xacto blades at Michaels arts and crafts store ( I know they are a chain so maybe theres one near you) and discovered they sell models…they have a limited selection and only revell models…well I found a 1/48 scale OIF AV8B harrier thats selling for $40 LHS, $25 OLHS on clearance for $15!!! it was the last one they had or I would have bought more. I also came across a kit I built 20 years ago …a 1/48 P51d Mustang on clearance for $5…Revell must have repackaged it…its stamped 1977 on the styrene…not the most detailed kit, but still a fast fun build…I bought a few of those…well I think it was a pretty good deal so I thought Id share it with you.[;)]

I hit Michael’s every now and then for good deals like that. Excellent find!

All I ever see at the local store is Auto kits & a very limited selection on those. But it’s great for some very useful craft related items.

Regards, Rick

A local Michael’s was closing in favor of a newer, larger store. I was looking for a fine tip marker (scrapbooking pen) for doing panel lines, and found a Mongram 1/48th A-10 for $4.50. There are deals out there.

Was the Mustang the “Miss Detriot” release of the D model? Or the “Ding Hao” B? Both of those kits aren’t bad for their age, and were all we had in 1/48 (except the old Hawk kit sold by Testors in “Old Crow” livery, which had no cockpit) until a firm called Accurate Miniatures debuted with their series of Mustangs. If you wanted an Allison Mustang, you built the late, great Koster conversion kit, using the fuselage and gear from the Monogram P-51B. I’d like to have those kits just to have them, especially at that price. Unfortunately, like local hobby shops, we have no Michael’s here in the Center of the Universe. Maybe on Long Island?
TOM

Tom , its revell kit# 5241 P51D and comes with decals for “Big Beautiful Doll” and “Miss Marilyn II”. The decal sheet is dated 2004 and the stamp on the model is dated 1977 which again points to a repack in my opinion. This kit does have a cockpit and its not too bad from what I see from some walkarounds Ive been looking at. The kit only has 49 pieces, so as I said in the original post this will be a fun, fast build. If I recall there is a Michaels in Staten Island, and several in Jersey where I am. From what I saw, they had decent prices on kits even without the sale. They have a P38 lightning…its a J model I think…1/48 revell kit that is like $16 and its not on sale. They also had an Apache and an F14 Tomcat, both under $20 if I remember correctly. Those prices blow away the LHS’s in my area. The more I think about it, I may go there again and pick up a few more kits. You can never have too many especially when you get them cheap!

The Michael’s I went to in Markham, Ontario, Canada actually carried some Hobbycraft along with the Revell kits. I found a CF-100 on discount once there.

The Michaels I go to has a great selection of Revell Monogram models! Is the P-51D the big beautiful doll flying box art one?Anyways, great find!

Oops didnt read that previous post, anyways,I built most of that kit.
