WELL !

A CHEBEC . Does anyone know to what period of maritime history this one belongs to . I am not talking about year , but , type . This model goes a long way to show that certain ships certainly will get your juices flowing . Good job this !!! Tanker-builder

I hope this helps. The Chebec were used by the Barbery countries in the 17th and 18th century’s.The French and the Spanish used them in the 18th century.The Spanish used them against the Barbery. I based my build on the Spanish version.The Barbery pirates used these ships against the U.S. merchant fleet also.This was the end of the 18th century to the start of the 19th.The Chebec was a very fast and well maneuvering ship. They carried a set of of auxilary oars that were used when in trouble or lack of wind.The cannons would be pulled out an the oars would be inserted in their gunports.The sails were mainly Lateen rigged.The French in the middle of the 18th century were square rigging the main mast. The total reason is unclear.The Chebec was even found being used by the Russians at the end of its history.

Thank you so much for posting your Chebec photos. You did a superb job as usual. I second Dave’s comment that I never get tired of looking at your ships, they are amazing.

I have this model in my stash waiting patiently, and I was able to score a Heller/Aroura 1/50 Chebec on evilBay. Man that thing is a leviathan. I had heard that it was big, and they weren’t kidding!

Thanks. You are right on the Heller kit it is a monster.I’ve got the hull started.,but need to re-do the decks. The rigging on this Chebec was really challenging.Their was a lot of blocks that needed to be rigged to the deck before getting the captains gig and the mast in.I missed them and had a heck of time after the fact getting them in.

As I looked through your pictures I found myself tying “imaginary” dead eyes !!

Now my cat’s tail is tangled up with dental floss… how do these things happen ???
