Channel Front Butcher Bird finished...

Here’s the latest off the bench, Tamiya’s 1/72 190A-3 converted to an A-4. What a great little kit, this has to be my favorite model to build.

A few minor tweaks, added deployed landing flaps. These were cast myself using Goffy resin flaps as a master for my mold. Ailerons and rear elevators repositioned, brass tubes for the MG 151 barrels, Eduard pre-painted PE seat belts and of course the tail was modified to represent the correct antenna mast for the A-4. Paint is Aeromaster acrylic and the decals are Aeromaster “Early Butcher Birds, Pt. 1” with the exception of the Eagle’s head and flashes which are from the kit decals.

The plane represents “Yellow 4” of 9./JG 2, Vannes, France, Feb., 1943 piloted by Oberleutnant Siegfried “Wumm” Schnell, Staffelkapitän. Schnell spent most of his career with JG 2 and was one of the Luftwaffe’s leading Channel Front aces.

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Your build turned out great. Nice Job

Beautiful build, Mike. The Tamiya 190 is a great little kit. Nicely done and weathered.

Great looking model A fine job you did.

Amazing realism! I thought it was 1/48 until I read on. Very skillful and can you call a 190 pretty?[:I] Fine work![tup]

Wonderful build Mikey![tup] [#ditto] on the scale appearance! Super great photography setting too…looks amazingly real!

Well done Mike! Love those 190’s with the motif on the sides. [tup]

In fact, I had the 1/48 version in my hand last night and almost started on it, it’s one of my favs as well. Thanks for the photos Mike! [bow]

OOPS!..wanted to mention that rooster head on the starboard side…if war can be funny…THAT’s FUNNY!

You may get some folks to believe that it is 1/72. As for me… I’m not buyin’ it! You think I fell off the schnitzel truck yesterday?[;)]

OK seriuos now… That is just beautiful. If it is anything like the Tam D9… that’s a great kit indeed.[tup]

Outstanding work here!

Your paint is great and a good eye for detail. Wow! [bow]

Top notch work. I marvel at yours and everyones skill with 1/72.

Excellent build Mike [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

very nice job mike. You do get excellent results in such a small scale. I did the samething and had to double check if it was your typical 1/72 scale. It does look 1/48. Again your great molt work in this scale is only exceeded by your attention to detail.

OHH, I like that!

Mike, that IS a beautiful plane and a great job on the model. The FW 190’s are great looking (for one of “theirs”) planes, and I think you have done it rightly! Thanks for sharing your fine work with us. Gary

Nicely done.

Great build. I love the Wulf… [tup]

Great looking Wurger.

Have you tried the Revell 1/72 190s for the later versions?

I’ve built a few, and really liked them.

Karl

Thanks for all the comments, guys! [bow]

Karl- Yes, I have. They’re not quite as nice as the Tamiya but I prefer them over the Hasegawa 190. The one big problem with the kit is the cowl ring diameter is too small. If you use the Hasegawa cowl ring it improves the look of the Revell significantly. I’m not big on the molded in canopy of the Revell either but that’s an easy fix. I’ll be a doing a Revell 190A-8 in the near future.

Mike, Looks first rate.
