Chally Ho! Challenger 1-update 3/31 Strapped for time

Hi gang. Finally was able to make a start on the Tamiya Challenger 1 Mk.3. All the road wheels are chunked up painted and assembled but I forgot to snap a pic. The Chobham side armor has the hollow back filled in and the thinner plate at the back end has been replaced with some sheet styrene and grab handles. I really hate when they make parts try to “look” thinned by tapering the edges.

A modeler named Dan Hay has given some good advise in the form of his web site with some building tips. he has drawing of the scratch built fuel drum racks so I printed them top the correct scale on Avery labels and applied that to the sheet plastic. Makes cutting out the part a breeze.

Nice. Don’t see too many of these built up.

Okay… where’s mine?

Okay, where

Marc - Nice to see the nut back in armor…it’s been a long cold winter without our wingnut builds!!

Now about this web site…the rules are if you find something good you cannot do the “na na” and only tell us abouts it…like the old Wendys commercial…

WHERE THE LINK!!!

Rounds Complete!!

Looks like a cool project Marc, looking forward to seeing this one come to life. [B]

Eric, DM, Mike, Bill… thanks for the comments guys. Good to be back and with a real change of pace build too.

Yes Mike you’re right. I won’t let it happen again lest I suffer the consequences[blndfld] Here’s the link…

Well I know that Mike knows but we had yet another snow day here yesterday. So after the snow blower ran out of gas theres was nothing to do but sit at the bench. The fuel drum rack are almost done.

SNOW…did you say SNOW [st]…By time I see my grass it will be time to cut it…BUT…I agree with Marc…this is good bench weather!!

Rounds Complete!!

Agreed. Two days off from school from ten inches of snow… the snowblower is a great invention!

WOW, nice work on the fuel drum racks. Those really look good.

About the snow… truly, this is the Winter of our Styrene Cement.[;)]

Thanks Dre.

And I have had all the snow I need for this year year thank you very much.[:@]

That’s crazy good detail Marc.

Snowday, what the heck is that? Working for a newspaper, I never get weather related days off. Of course, we rarely get super-sucky weather here.

Hey Wingy! Going to pay close attention to this one, just picked this guy up about a week ago to go along with a great sheet of Echelon decals I scored a while back.

Talk about a great reference site…good stuff! [snWow]

Eric, Marc… thanks guys. Marc, wound;'t by any chance be the one with the NATO camo and the desert yellow Chobham on the front would it?[whstl]

It’s the IFOR/KFOR set, number…35002. Picked it up for the cool markings, as well as leftovers for a yet-to-be-revealed ‘future project’.

See there, it wasn’t that bad.

!http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p242/carlapryor/thsmiley_sick.gifI knew you would cough it up for us.

Very nice detail work there Marc. I’m sure the rest of this is going to be a treat as well.

Thnaks DM.

Marc, same sheet but I am doing “21”

Hey Marc,

Did you start this in one thread and then start over again? I coulda swore I remember making a comment about this build (didn’t you ask about banged up road wheels)?

Anyways - great start - those racks you scratched are looking superb. Lookin’ forward to progress!

Hi Boyd

i think I may have had a thread that I was asking some pre-start questions. I remember asking about the chunked up wheels. Dunno why i didn’t just update that one.

Some progress made. The rear plate is nearly done… just needs the extra track but that’s after painting. Apparently one of the issue with that Tamiya kit is part of the glacis has a step down on 2 sides so i evened that out with some .020 plastic card. And even though there will be the Chobham armor skirts installed, I just can’t have the “Tamiya air conditioning” left wide open.
