Challenging everyone, even FSM staff..! The Mad Fokker Day..!

You may have heard that on 8 August, several members of those Forums will be attempting to build a Tiger in a day. A fantastic idea, and I may even join them in their quest for success!

This give me the idea of another one-day Group Build, this time with an aircraft kit that is at the same time easy and cheap to find, easy to build, even possibly easy to paint. Also it is one of the most famous aircraft ever. I’m talking about Revell’s diminutive 1/72 Fokker Dr.1…

I can already hear many complaining, despite the distance…: What?? An aircraft??!

Well, this IS the challenge isnt’it? Stop trembling, I can assure it can be done, even if there’s no way to conceal mistakes under tarps, mud and dust… (that was, mostly, for the benefit of the treadheads… HeHeHe…).

It can be done in a day. Even a triplane, yes! There’s very little rigging involved with this design, and some of the colour schemes are dead easy (overall while, overall black, …). Also, it’s a great intro into WWI modeling!

There are two kits of the famed triplane by Revell, one that dates from… a long time ago, and one that was released only a year ago, and which, I can assure you, is a little gem. Of course, other 1/72 Dr.1 are eligible, those of ESCI, and Eduard for instance…

I’m proposing that we build this little beauty on Sunday 17th of October 2004, to ‘coincide’ with the 87th (!) anniversary of the aircraft operational debut in 1917.

And by mid-October, everyone should have been able to locate the kit and, why not, done some research into more elaborate paint schemes…

So, who’s in it?

Domi

HEY,
This is a great idea, id like to do an auto one too.

Randy

Well, Randy, that would be cool too. Need to find a kit that can realistically be built in a single day though!

It just so happens that I have a Revell Dr ! from…a while back. Guess I’ll have to join in this one!

HEY,
what about the revell civic si coup? Its an easy build and its very quick, the only thing that may be a prob would be painting a nice body. May have to make it a two day build.lol

Randy

Randy, given that cars normally have glossy paint schemes, I’d think allowing a second day would be good, so maybe work only over 2 Sundays instead of one! Anyway, what about this Fokker, are you in?

Keyworth, welcome aboard… We’re a handful already!

HEY,
sry man wish i could, but i aint got no money to buy the kit.lol Trust me i would though.

Randy

Randy, no probs, my friend. There’s still plenty of time before we start this, so things may get better and you may still join us I assure you.

Domi

HEY,
If i can get the resources together, i will definitely join you guys, of course this will be one of my furst planes, other than the ones i built before i joined the forum and turned out like crap. Thanks for the long wait, itll give people like me time to do some research on aircraft modelling.lol

Randy

s of today, we have 11 possible members taking part in this folly…

Ausf
Build22
Dubix88
Keyworth
Model Grandpa
Monrad
Phroosh
Pingtang
Shrikes
Wildwilliam and myself…

Look like we have more treadheads interested than anything else. Good for them. But still no FSM staff…?!

I’ve now created an entry in the Group Build Forum with pics and links to get you started in your search/research…

14 members interested but still no-one from the FSM staff… Are they building models? Or just selling magazines…???

or neither?

Come on, Admin People!! Who are the “regulars” here… Dave, Lawrence and Matthew… Come on, people! It’s not against company policy to participate with the peons, right? [:D]
