Thanks! I never knew such a lumbering beast could be made to look so cool!
Ray
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH,
I saw some familiar faces, flightlines, ships, scenery, and especially aircraft. It looks like at least a quarter of those pics are from HMH-464.
Those things don’t exactly lumber. The CH-53E is in fact the fastest as well as heaviest helicopter in the US military inventory. Some of the moves that 53 pilots can pull off make Maverick and Goose jealous.
I miss turning wrenches and flying in those beasts. The way the Corps is recalling Inactive Ready Reservists, I may get to do it again. However, I’m not going to volunteer for anything.
Semper Fi,
Chris
I remember seeing video years ago of a 53 ( I believe it was a D, possiblly an FRG D) rolling.
Does anyone remember this or is my hazy old memory getting worse?
David
ah you beat me to it. That is another amazing video i called my sister down to watch it and she was just like, “so” i just looked at her and she went back upstairs.
here are some nice pics for anyone building one…

Chris, I used to work on them too, in the Navy, HC-1, NAS North Island, CA.
Got to fly up to Pendleton about one or two times a month to practice external loads.
That was fun. We had to scrap one mission after we got up there because our hooks were pickling as soon as a full load came on. So because we were done early, our pilot, a prior Marine pilot, took us yanking & banking through the hills of Pendleton…Best ride in an aircraft ever in my life.
I intend to upload a lot more pics at some point, have a bunch of all the helos types from HMM-264 det on Bataan.
Thanks! I’ll show my wife tonight, she won’t give me a “so what?” attitude…shes been around me too long to know better!
David
