CF-18

Im lookin forward to putting together my first F-18 (in Canadian markings) kit here pretty soon.

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction here, in the line of a good kit. Im looking for a 1:48 scale F-18A kit. If anyone has any pros/cons on any kits and manufacturers that would be a great help.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.[:D][tup]

[#welcome]Welcome fellow Alberta resident! I hail from a little community just west of you that you may have heard about called Calgary?[(-D]

Anyway if you go to www.greatmodels.com or www.squadron.com and do a search for F-18A Hornet, it will give you most of the major manufacturers and scales available.

Hope you find this forum helpful and enjoyable! I’ve been around for a just over a year and have had a blast, met some really good modellers too!

There are a number of options available for kits. In 1/48 scale Hasegawa makes a CF-18 kit but it is in the 70-80 dollar range. I believe Revell/Monogram makes kits of F-18s that are not so expensive but require slight modifications to convert them to CF-18s. There are a number of aftermarket decal manufacturers that produce CF-18 markings, the most notable being Leading Edge Models.

In 1/72 scale Hasegawa makes a CF-188 which is the correct designation of the CF-18. I’m not sure of any others.

I would recommend Flightdecs (http://flightdecs.ca) as a good source of decals. He is located in Thunder Bay, Ontario and has one of the largest inventories that I know of and his service is good.

Leading Edge has a web site (http://lemdecal.com) which has a F-18 Hornet Model Guide page for building the CF-18.

I would also recommend checking out the IPMS Canada web site (www.ipmscanada.com) for further information. (I would also recommend joining IPMS Canada if you are not already a member. It’s a great resource for Canadian subjects.)
