"Century series jets" GB feeler

OK, Rob has made the sugestion of a completion date of Spring 2015 ( I assume that would be round March/April??)

Lets keep the start date though, no need to rush in untill you are ready to do so

I am happy with that if it helps to get more folks involved

BTW, I can see no reason why cross overs should not work, makes it more fun

Paul, wicked list, thanks for this. I am on the prowl for a decent F-106 of which I may have to resort to begging on the street for!!

There are gobs of 1/72 Hasegawa and 1/48 Monogram Sixes on eBay every day, so you should be able to get a good price!

Tks, gonna prob have to go that route…my LHS will def NOT have any.

Rob

Don’t know where you live but if you happen to have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they just may have the 101 re release. I bought mine about a year or so back from HL.

Tks plastic…I’m in Canada near montreal, so, no. I did, however, just looked at evilBay and there are, like PaulBoyer juset mentioned, tons of options there…and a bunch with free shipping so I may bite on a F-106 from there.

Yes Ebay is another option. A while back I picked up the F-100, 102 and 106 as a package lot for $18 each including shipping so there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Im in…I have an 1/48 F-106 that I’ve wanted to accompany my other one, love the lines of that bird and It’ll be the third I’ve built and hopefully I’ll do it justice this time.

Be aware that in the first boxing (or two?), Hasegawa’s F-106 had the early prototype wing with the fences. So a few kits out there may have them. Just shave them off then use a razor saw to cut in a slot in the leading edge of the wing. Later editions of the kit have the slot.

The usual definition for the Century Series is F-100 to XF-109.

Theuns, I’m going to be in with a Hasegawa 1/72 F-106A. Just ordered on from Ebay.

Guys, I have asked Rob to take over the hosting of this GB as I can not (due to logistical issues) commit to hosting a GB that stretches longer than a few months. It seems that most folk want a longer time to build so I will just be a participant in this GB with a 1/48 Hasagawa F-104c

I am sure Rob will post the starter thread in the GB section soon. Have fun with the builds!

I’ve never done a group build, it might be fun.

I’ve looked to see if there are any published rules and came up empty.

What are the general rules? I have a 1/48 F-104G with a NF conversion.

This might be a fun diversion from not building my TOS USS Enterprise!

F-117 design started long after the unified system started. The 117 was the designation to keep it out of the normal sequence.

Never Mind

The group build should have classes

Class 100: From the box - no aftermarket or scratch building.

Class 150: Vacuform competition.

Class 200: Beginners – new modeling

Class 220: Beginning Diorama, class 200 rules

Class 250: Vacuform Diorama

Class 300: Intermediate – medium skill level - you have won up to 10 IPMS (type) awards

Class 320: Intermediate Diorama, class 300 rules

Class 400: Advanced – all the bells and whistles - for the modeler who has a wall full of IPMS awards.

Class 420: Advanced Diorama, class 400 rules

Class 500: Gonzo class 1/32 scale and larger mega detailed something you might enter in nationals.

Class 600: Unconventional – unusual, historically incorrect, bazaar, just plain weird.

First place: Gold medal

Second place: Silver medal

Third place: Bronze medal

Fourth place: Iridium medal

mach, group build rules are usually pretty simple. A set start and end time, have a kit that falls within the parameters of the build, kits have to be unstarted or in the early stages of construction, take pics so the rest of us can follow your build and above all HAVE FUN! If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

I have to agree with lewbud.

I hosted the Trainer and P-40 GB’s and they were pretty simple things.

I would sugest the following “rules”

Any aubject classed as “century series jet/s” ( seems there needs to be a little more clarity as to what that actually was)

Any scale

Out the box or as much “bling” as you like

Start say 17/June/ 2014 (for the early birds  and ends round 31 May 2015

Kits of less than 30% started allowed

Cross overs allowed

WIP pix please

and most important - MUST HAVE FUN!! (otherwise why do it)

These are just basic ideas and not cast in concrete

I dug up my 1/48 Monogram Voodoo 101 that has decals for a NM scheme so I will be doing this one.

The Voodoo looks super sharp in NM. I did my Revell CF-101 in NM last fall and I really liked the look of her that way.

I did a NM Sea Fury in Alclad and was impressed at the realistic metallic tone it produced so I can’t wait to Alclad the Voodoo!
