Celluclay drying time?

How long does this stuff take to dry?

Depends on what consistency you mixed it and how much of it is layered on in certain spots. If it’s thick in certain areas, it can take almost a week…but on average for me-- 3 to 4 days.

I mixed it per instructions (1 cup water : 1/4 pound) thickness varies but is no more than 1/8 inch anywhwere. Do I need to set this aside for the weekend? Is there anything I can do to help it along? The celluclay is over a strofoam base so I hesitate to put it in the oven!

You can try using a blowdryer to speed it up a bit Derek.

You’ve got to be a little careful when trying to speed up drying. Natural evaporation allows natural elasticity and adhesive properties to remain somewhat balanced. If you heat the upper layers too quickly, you might end up causing cracks to appear as the lower levels continue to dry. With only 1/8 inch or so, you’re probably not in bad shape, but in general, I like to let “nature take her course”…my attempts at speeding things up usually result in either 1) having to start all over, or 2) repairing the problems caused by speeding things up.

I always mix mine with water and elmers glue. Once I get it laid out how I want it I throw it in the oven usually arounf 350 to 400 degrees. Check it every 10-15 min. I havent had any problems with it yet. Watch the wood base though it can scorch but uesually turns out looking pretty cool.

I mix my celuclay with plaster. I get a good solid base and the dry time is reduced.
about 2 parts celuclay to 1 part plaster.
