From what i can remember they used both E and H models as for the 3 tone color scheme its the same as my dads reseve unit and cant remember the exact color’s persay but they where dark green a light green and grey usaualy the bottoms of the wings and belly of the fusalage was also grey some one else might be able to give the FS colors info. Hope this helps.
I was in Mogadishu in the spring/summer of '93, and I’m not sure the color scheme on the bird- I only saw it through NVGs at night. ![]()
It was pretty amazing watching the IR spotlight move around, focus in, then WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM. No more target.
Not sure the version, but I KNOW (trust me, I know) it had a 105, a 40mm Bofors, and the 20mm chain guns. I have a fragment from one of those 105 rounds sitting in a closet somewhere. (If I had to guess, I’d guess it was an H. For some reason that sticks out in my mind, but I can’t recall why.)
Whatever version and color it was, thank God for Spectre. Made my life a little easier.
Back at old Fort Bragg- right after I got back from Somalia, the AC-130’s we saw there for an exercise were of the gray variety, and I was told they were in the same squadron as the ones who had supported us in Somalia. I believe they had a soft edge, because from the ground at a distance, the colors just seemed sort of blended together- I didn’t see hard lines. And they didn’t look too much different, color-wise, from the other 130’s we jumped from.
the cc-130 is the canadian version and the scheme was nato green the same dark grey we use now and a very light grey that i’m trying to find out what it was, also whether it was hard or soft edge.
jwb,
The CC-130 is a Canadian slick C-130H (or E). USAF is the only service operating the AC-130. If I remember correctly the AC-130’s flying out of Mombasa and supporting Somalia were H models. When were you there? Mighta shared some of the same turf with ya.
Curtis,
I could swear that it was a soft edge, but I’m not 100% sure.
I would have to say that it would be a soft edge. I have never seen a camoflaged USAF aircraft that had a hard edge. Except for the newest aircraft I have been around every type of ship they flew from 1970 to the late 1980s.
the american and canadian schemes are very different from eachother i’m looking for the canadian one.
I found this link it looks like there where hard edged camo http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/8wing/photo_gallery/photo_gallery_e.asp?cat=21&id=246
i’ve been on that site many times and have not seen that pic thanks. also i have spent a total of 5 weeks in c.f.b. trenton and thouse kc-135 pilots are nuts.
For the Camo scheme, look at the photos I posted over at the diorama section.
