Was storing a few models at my parents house over the years, and when I went to pick a few up, I noticed that one the cats had urinated on the models. It soked the box (which had really nice art) and the plastic parts. Is there anyway that I can get the scent off the models? Some of my clothes had suffered the same results and can’t get it out through washing.
I used to be in the flooring business (removing urine soaked carpets is not fun [+o(]) and to be honest there is nothing that will completely remove the smell from the cardboard box and any other paper products like the instructions and decals if they were affected. You should be able to wash and save the sprues/parts and remove the smell as they are non porous.
The plastic can be washed with a enzyme for such purposes. As far as the boxes go…not really worth the hassle unless it is a box worth a lot of money to a collector. Any “washing” will break down the box and the artwork on it. If you still have the desire, you might try renting an Ozone machine. These are used to remove smoke and other odors from buildings and automobiles. Especially effective on items that have suffered from intense smoke damage.
I’d throw it all away—couldn’t deal with building a model that had been urinated on…
I was worried it was on a completed model. I would have a new model of a stuffed cat if that had happened…
Please do not let that British lady throw the cat into the trash… [6]
Maybe you can spray some Future on it. That seems to fix every problem on these boards.
Great! Thanks for that - having a long day and needed the laugh!!
How do you handle human urine on models?
The cat is asking for freedom. Seriously.
I heard that’s a good paint stripper…
7474: Join the crowd my cat did that to me a few days[:@] back peeded on my desk calander pad I layed it outside over night let it dry out good. Luckley she missed my Brumbar build, as far as your clothes if you wash in water as hot as possible it will wash out with no left over stain or odor. ACESES5
I heard it’s good for jellyfish stings.
A bit of properly applied boot leather should take care of any future problems.
Small pieces of lead propelled at high rates of speed would prevent any future incidences from occurring.
Why
Only if it’s applied enough to actually kill the cat. That seems to be something they are incapable of learning, or unlearning, as the case may be.
Now maybe if you hook up an electric fence charger to a loop of wire around where you store those boxes…

Just another reason why I have dogs.
No, no, no! You guys are doing it all wrong! First, you should be able to buy “Scent remover” from Meijer, or wally world, or gunstore. This removes human, and animal scent from clothing, and anything made from similar materials. Next Ozium - it removes odors of all kinds. Spray this inside the box, and the lid, and all over the instructions. You’ll want to make sure that all paper products dry throughly before applying the Ozium. While you wait for the boxes to dry before spraying them, wash all model parts in AJAX antibacterial dish soap - this is quite harsh on all hard, and soft surfaces since it removes all kinds of waterbased things stuck to dishes. It’s also chemically harsh, and it will dry your skin if used excessively. Rinse completely. Let your parts air dry.
Take sandpaper, and alcohol to the affected area of your cats’ private parts - Uh, this is optional. [H] Stuff the kitty according to the instructions your taxidermest suggests. Next, take your paper parts, (instructions, box. etc.), and check them for odor. If only a little odor is still present, spray Ozium again. If you still smell it strongly, it might well be completely ruined, even if sprayed throughly with Ozium, but this can be used as a cologne for the kitty once mounted on the shelf. Wait until dry. There might be other products out there that will remove scent from paper if sprayed lightly. Check with your local retailer for these. I hope this helps.

i use vinegar to clean up the parts, but in terms of the paper, you have to try to see whether that will work, i use vinegar to spray off urine smell.
