Castrol Super Clean

I live in the U.K and having found the english equivilent of Future, my next task is finding the uk version (or something which does the job equally well) of castrol super clean. Having seen a number of tests on the net it looks like some sort of wonder cleaner and i wants me some of that action!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanx

Rob

Man that stuff is the greatest, put your parts in it and at least two hours later paint and decals come right of. as far as safety goes wear rubber gloves ive made the mistake of not using gloves and my hands were very irritated, and it will eat plastic if left in it too long, put a model in there and the next day there might not be a model. i had a plastic mat in my bathroom and i must have spilled some on it because the next day there were big holes in it. but if you ever get some, WOW.

Check with your automobile supply center and see if they can order it or you might be able to order some directly through the company? Just some suggestions. Heck I’d be willing to help you out and ship some to you if the post office allows it… But truthfully I don’t think they do because it’s a liquid and a chemical. But I will check for you if you want!?

P.S. Where in England are you!!! I’ve traveled from Dover, to Brighton (which is one of my top five favorite cities) up through London into Nottingham!!! I love it over there!!! [;)]

I thought Castrol was a British company? [%-)]

Well, I just looked on my jug of CSC and it says Castrol North America, New Jersey something or other. Maybe there’s a Castrol U.K., I don’t know.

Anyhow, here’s a list of the ingredients:
2-Butoxyyethanol(111-76-2), Sodium metasilicate(6834-92-0),Sodium hydroxide(1310-73-2)
It’s a degreaser/cleaner so check in that department. I hope this helps a bit. -Cheers

P.S. Here’s their U.S. Toll Free “retail purchase locations” #, 1-800-642-0174. I imagine it would cost to call from England, I have no idea whatsoever about that.

Just one word of advice when using this stuff: BE CAREFUL!
Butoxyethanol is also known as Cellosolve. Cellosolve and its associated acetates are toxic to the hematopoietic system of the body (blood and blood transport mechanisms). Please be sure to wear gloves and eye protection. Nitrile should be better than latex rubber in this case. In addition, Sodim Hydroxide (NaOH) is a very strong base, and can reduce skin to soap in short order. NaOH is also the primary ingredient in Easy-Off oven cleaner ,also a good paint remover for plastic.

Yeah i learned that the hard way, my hands just now stopped being irritated from that stuff , after three days. and boy does it burn like a @%$^*!^& on a little open cut.

Hi all, thanx for your suggestions, modelers really are the most helpful bunch!

LilBEAR, Brighton Rocks! Also one of my favourite places to be! I actually live in Greater London, about a 20 minute drive/underground journey from central london. What did you think of our green and sceptered isle? Thanks for the offer also, but i think you’re probably right about the post office. Especially post - 9/11.

riffraff247, thanks for the info and number, i’ll try and mail them first but may have to result to long-distance phonecalls!

I’ve tried Halfords (uk’s largest car shop) but was greated with confused looks and an air of derision oh,and no help at all(ah, the joys of ‘dedicated’ retail staff!).

My quest continues!!!
