Is there a practical way to cast jet exhaust cans in resin using the standard half and half rtv mold???

It can be done. Check the back issues of FSM for the articles on casting parts and this will give you the basics.
What you will need to do is cast the outer edge first. I would glue the can to a block (Lego with the bumps sanded off works great) and fill the inner surface of the can level with plasticene. Build a mold box from your Lego blocks around the centred master. This will give you the outer “female” mold. Once it sets up leave the master and female mold in place. You will need to build then mold box higher and leave space for a rectangle around the can surface that mates to the fuselage. Remove the plasticene from inside the can and pour your second half of RTV to create a “male” mold into and over the female mold. This should leave you with a two part mold that leave the inside vacant and captures the outer detail.
I hope this helps.

That should help, thanks for the timely response.

You’re welcome. Post some pictures as you progress and of the finished goods.
