making several ho scale resin locomotives,I want to cast the trucks with low heat metal I see micro mark has it. is there any cheaper ,I could cast the trucks with resin but the would be in the diesel shop all the time for truck change outs

I cast a lot of toy soldiers,and can get lead from a local scrap yard for about fifty cents a pound. You can mix it with tin to reduce the melting point. Last time I checked tin was going for about 4:50 a pound .mike

what do you use to melt the two together

There are dedicated melting pots for exactly that.some are designed for bullet casting.if you have a small cast iron ladle you can do it on your stove top

There are some “toy soldier” casting sets available. I think one place was just called “Castings, Inc.”

They included molds (which I scrapped), some pot metal, a solder pot, and a ladle. All but the molds are useful.

Yeah, I recall buying a bunch of rtv molds from them. Not sure if they are still around .
