I’ve had this Tamiya model of the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren fro a while now and I just to finish it last month. I painted it with my favorite MB color, silver, of course. Not a complicated model but not an easy built as well. The metallic applique of logos and names added to the authenticity of the model. I was just dissapoined that the hood was a little bent. It was too late to do anything about it.

not only is it a nice model, it’s also very well photographed. 
you may never own one, that’s the great thing about modelling. i’ve noticed that rarity of a car is inverse to the modelling community. eg a Yenko Camaro is very rare in 1:1 and stock sixes are plentiful. now the reverse is true in modelling. models of ‘mainstreamers’ are also rare.
I agree with you 100%. Some models specially classic cars that are no longer on the streets are only seen on pictures and better yet as scale models beautifully built by dedicated modellers. Thanks to models makers like Revell and Monogram who continue to come out with these classics.
That is a beautiful work of art and you’re right about the models too! Thanks to Monogram, and a couple others, I go in the other direction; cars from the 30’s! Duesenbergs, Packards, Rolls Royce, Mercedes, etc.! Back then, they were moving works of art. It’s nice to see that the MacLaren brings some of that back!!!
Those are the classics cars I’m talking about. It would be nice if the oher manufacturers can come out with their own versios of these cars. It would be interesting to see how they will treat the classics.
Ah yes…the old classics [:)] I’ve got to chime-in again now that the thread has changed gears to the cars that I longingly “can never own”.
Although I will always appreciate, and find time to build, competition cars that interest me…and the odd modern ‘supercar’, such as the SLR McLaren, that is worthy…my first love was with the elegant luxury cars of the 1920’s and 30’s. There’s just something special about cars of that era…they oozed class.
My sediments match you guys…it would be very nice if all the manufacturers would market these vintage cars! I’d be in heaven to see modern-tooled kits of Duesenberg’s, Auburn’s, Cord’s, Cadillac’s, Mercedes’ and the plethora of other examples of motorized art.

I can remember that in my earlier years in scale modelling, Revell or Monogram came out with classics like an elvis pink cadillac and I even built a metal Ford Mattel using screws. And I think up to now they have the surfing woody. Nice to talk about it.

OK, I’ve had my leg pulled long enough - you can take it back to the dealership you stole it from! [whstl] Actually, I too - thought it was a real Mercedes!! I’m so embarassed. None of my cars look that good, even the ones that I thought came out good! I’ll post pics of what I’ve built in recent past - I just keep forgetting to.
