Cars (and Trucks) 2024-25

@Toimi_Tom

The only reason I am not printing my own decals is because printers dry up is they sit around too much. Decals would be the only thing I am printing. And that wouldn’t happen often enough to justify the printer.

So I make trades with a guy in my scale model club. I 3D print him stuff every now and then and he prints me decals.

That’s looking real nice there Tom!

This is looking just fantastic. And what a great subject.

Would it be okay to join in with my WIP that i started this past Wednesday? I post progress on that each workday, i could combine my work for a Saturday post here.

I think you’ll be fine. Post away!

Hi everyone, so this is my weeks progress on the two kits. Mostly working the engines, usually the first steps anyway. So the kits came with a flat head 6, a 289 (both came with the Plymouth), a flat head V-8 and a DeSoto Firedome V-8.

Saw a video where the front end was gappy and they were not kidding. So I worked on that a little.

And going to try something with the front seat. Started off by glueing down some paper towels.

See if I can get what I have in my head onto the front seat. Lol.

You look to be off to a good start with the engines. Your front seat has my head working on what do with a 48 Ford I’m wanting to build.

Somehow over the past week I started this GT500 I think I picked up on eBay. I stripped the paint that was previously applied and I started painting some things. Also notice some of the engine parts are missing so I’ll have to figure that out.

Need a Ford FE engine for a 68 Shelby, 66 Fairlane to the rescue. I really want to prostreet that Fairlane anyways.

I have some parts sitting in a bleach bath also to remove the chrome.

I even shot some Ford light blue on the engine

Making good progress, don’t you love having donor kits? Or when kits have extra engines to choose from?

Surprisingly, the 66 Fairlane comes with a 4spd manual and an automatic trans that are molded separately from the engine block. I can’t recall ever seeing that before.

I have a '66 fairlane with the 427 in it in my stash. Recently got it on clearance over at hobby lobby, i need to open the box and see if it has the same setup.

My kit had two carbs in it but only had a single carb intake. Maybe you have an upgraded kit. Maybe a full dual quad setup?

That is one thing i like with these old amt kits, a lot of them have extra bits in the kit. You don’t kit that with the japanese kits. You have what you need to build what is advertised and that is it. Although the quality is better.

So i opened up my kit and the 427 does come with a dual quad carburetor set-up. It only has one transmission which is manual.

A little progress on the schwimmwagen. Kind of got stopped for the last two days with a stomach virus.

The photoetch has been a headache since the instructions are pretty vague in some parts. Think I have everything ready for priming on the interior which I plan to do tomorrow.

Forgot I also got these figures to go with my build,

Par for the course in my experience, at least. Worth the effort though – usually!

The schwimmwagen  is coming along nicely. It’ll come to life under primer.

Some of the photoetch I’m not even going to bother with since it’s so tiny.

I made some more progress on my 1972 Nissan Skyline Sedan.

My last post showed the plaid interior parts. I drew the plaid pattern in Microsoft Paint and have a friend print decals. The the interior is all painted up in 3 tones of green.

The new progress is I have flocked the interior. I suck at flocking, so every time I do it I ask myself why I do it. HAHA I didn’t take any photos of the flocked floor and parcel tray. But they are done.

Last night I started polishing the body. But first I’ll tell you about the paint, just in case I haven’t mentioned it yet.

I used a paint called Green Apple, that can be purchased at Tropical Glitz.

The cool thing about Tropical Glitz is they sell tons of cool custom colors by the gallon for show cars and lowriders. But they also sell small 2oz and 4oz of most of their colors that are thinned and ready to spray in airbrushes. This allows us builders with small scale model projects to buy top tier custom metal flake and kandy paints.

Then I applied 2k clear from Splash Paints.

Splash Paints is a great small business that everyone should check out for their painting needs at least once. It is a one man show and he really supports the hobby. He sells tons of car colors, some metalizer colors, kandy paints, some Gundam colors, and he is working his way into some military colors as well. Plus if you have a paint code he will mix up any color you want.

With 2K clear I can get results with very little orange peel, so there is minimal wet sanding. I mainly just need to use a rubbing compound, polishing compound, and then I final wax / show coating.

In this image I have completely wet sanded and polished the roof. This image is very low quality because it is a screenshot if a video clip. Because of the poor quality it is hard to see the sparkle in the paint. But here it is.

To finish this model I need to finish polishing, apply Bare Metal Foil, finish the dashboard trim, and then I think I can mash it all together.

Sounds like some good companies I need to check out
