Carrier deck and upper structure?

Is there any kits out there in 1/48 scale (or 1/72) for a section of carrier deck with the upper structure (bridge, etc.)? I’m looking for something to use for display or photography purposes. If there are no kits out there, I’ll just have to scratch build one, but I’m looking to save some work if I can.

I assume you’re talking about the bridge, etc. The answer is no. There are a few carrier deck display bases available I’m sure you are aware of (Verlinden, and Eduard come to mind).

Any attempt I’ve seen at constructing something like what you are trying to achieve has been scratch built.

Here’s a start… try Plastruct for materials. I plan on using these guys a lot once I get the space to start building dioramas.

P.S. Oh yeah…[#welcome] to the forum!

Quagmyre,
Thanks for the welcome! I kinda figured that was the case, but what the heck, maybe some one was doing one. I’m well versed in Plastruct and Evergreen plastic stock from my automotive modeling. I also saw the carrier deck sections in my Squadron catalog.
I guess I’ll get a couple of airplanes together, and in the meantime do some research. Any good links for pictures of carriers anyone might know of?

Lee

Hmmm… nope. But I got a great link for Aircraft Carrier paint schemes http://www.shipcamouflage.com/5_4.htm Again this may be a site you already know.

I’d give BlackWolf a try. He’s got a whole library of pics from WWII. Mostly aircraft, but he might be able to help you. He’s got his own forum now at ETO Club. Just click on the ETO Club pic in my signiature to get there. Register while you’re at it and snoop around. Eventually, you’ll find his requests area where he takes requests.

i made one for my 1/32 tomcat. take a look at it.

its not that hard to do. get some sheet acrylic form home depot. Drill the tie down holes and paint. I made a frame of wood for mine for display

Hey Lee,
For Carrier photos I don’t remember the individual sites but check out www.flattopsandmore.com. Go down to the Instructions & Tips button and they have several links to different carrier sites there.
By the way, what time period are you interested in? Flattops & More Hobbies has decks covering WWll and Korea as well as some stuff covering the Essex class carriers with the angled deck upgrade that took these carriers through the mid “50’s” and up to and including Viet-Nam. The angled deck stuff isn’t on the web site yet, but they had it up at the Kalamazoo contest this weekend.
