So I lost a really small part to the carpet monster about 5 weeks ago. Lost a new one tonight. While looking for it I found the one that was lost weeks ago. So, wait a few weeks and lose another part and the one you lost before will appear [*-)].
I totally lost an E10 tank mantlet about ten years ago on the kitchen counter.
5 years later I found it 20 feet or so away in the far corner of my living room.
This is nothing!
About five years ago I lost a 1:72 Kalashnikov rifle (3D print that I designed myself). I found it about three years later a few kilometers away while unpacking boxes after a move to a new house… Just laying on my relocated workbench! That could be a range record for the carpet/workbench monster, I almost wish I moved further away!

Ah! That’s the worm hole that hovers about 2 inches above your floor. When an object happens to fall into the worm hole, it jumps forward in time. Because of that, no matter how much you search, you won’t find that object until the day you catch up to it in time. That’s why it seems to magically appear one day (even years in the future) and you say to yourself “It was right here all this time! How could I not see that?!”
Just this past weekend, I found a tiny chunk of a 0.3mm copper beam that had fallen into the worm hole about a week ago. Got it perfectly centered too when it embedded itself in the heel of my bare foot. [:@]

You don’t need a carpet Monster. The Black Hole is a good anology. I lost a ship part about 15 years ago! Imagine my surprise yesterday when moving some boxes that had no tops were moved from the edge of my closet. In checking the Boxes.(New Shoes) I have small feet for a man so when they are on sale I buy shoes, two pair at a time.
One pair of Dress shoes, one pair of Nikes. Well, I took the dress shoes out to put the laces in. Out of one shoe falls the part! That’s like, Holy Fiddlesticks!! This is NO WAY possible. Because of the importance of that part I scoped the room out at least five or six times, checking everywhere. Nope, I go with the Dimensional Black Hole Theory!
The Carpet monster does exist though. I just picked up my Throw rug to clean it(It’s one of those 48x60 cheapies.) Guess what? A P.E.part, bent, shaped and painted had gone missing four years ago. There it was stuck, near the fringe under the edge, In relatively good shape but stuck by one little thread entwined in the unit.
I didn’t think after what that rug has been through that even Hurricane Ian would’ve dislodged that part!
sometimes the part will magically re-apear after you take the time to scratch build a replacement!
That is my conspirecy therory also Eugene, I have a friend who scratch builds alot of obscure 1/72 armor…seems right after a cottage company pops a similar kit. Same principal seems fitting for a carpet monster as well.
Or sometimes a part that seemingly just fell straight down onto the floor is scattered halfway across the room when you finally find it!
So, lost a part for a boat davit fifteen years ago . . . Found it a month back behind the dryer, with a couple of mis-matched socks, a cat toy, a ‘goodbye John’ letter for someone I don’t know, a page of arithmetic homework from 5th grade, and my virginity! Wow!
Just sayin, you never know what will turn up when you don’t expect.
I lost a resin aircraft wing. I ordered a replacement and got it. A couple of years later I found the wing in a box of Christmas ornaments.
I was on a flight with a stop enroute. I was sitting at a window a little ways behind the wing, which because of dihedral the wingtip was forward and above me.
Guy came out with a mobile workstand, set up under the wingtip and removed the lens on the wingtip light. Changed the lamp then went to replace the lens. Realized he had lost a screw, got done on his knees and searched the stand deck. Stood up, bent one of his feet to where he could see the sole, picked out the screw. Took a look my way, finished up and moved away.

These are all examples of the basic laws of physics that matter can not be created or destroyed.
Another basic law of the universe is that whatever can happen, will happen. (with the codicil that it will occur at the worse possible time, which I believe Einstein discovered)
What you have all obseved is the combination of the two laws together, so rest assured all is right.
If it’s a fairly simple part I can usually make it faster than I can find it.

I believe small enough parts can enter the quantum world, and will tunnel though the energy barrier of our benchtop and reappear somewhere else- maybe inside the top. But if there is a probability that it can tunnel into the top, there is the same probability that it can tunnel back out later
That’s a good one. Had that happen to me just recently. I looked high and low when I gave up looking, it magically appeared on top of a parts bag. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it.
Another time I was about to give up after searching on hands and knees, in the garbage can, even the shop vac. I found it in the cuff of my pants.
I think the most ridiculous instance was like the last search. I searched high and low, in and around everything. Nothing. At this point I realize I must make the part. I look at the assembly to see what I will need to do and what do I see? The missing piece was already installed. I could not believe I forgot doing that. It had been weeks since I did that but still. That was one for the books of Bakster.
One time I found a part in my shoe !
Why is it??? …Whenever you lose something, you always find it in the last place you look.
So if we could figure out in advance where that “last place” is, we could save a lot of frustration!
Oh, that’s easy. That’s because you don’t keep looking in more places after you find something.
