I had that happen to a couple trains as I was getting back into modelling in general.
I invested in a wall mounted display case shortly there after.
Or learning that the good old orange tube glue could act as what arson investigators refer to as an “accelerant”…

My then 8, now 22 year old former stepson, was leaning back in a chair and fell back onto my modeling table. He was fine, but my 1/32 F-14 Tomcat was a big ol’ mess. lol.
This reminds me of an incident that happened a long time ago in my youth. I spent 2-3 months building the Budweiser wagon train with the Clyesdale horses. Remember that kit? 
Anyways, I had it on display on a shelving my dad made for me. One day my mom, was dusting and decided she had to dust that shelving. When she went to put it back guess what happened? Yep! She dropped it and it literally was smashed to pieces. I didn’t speak to my mom for 2 weeks since that day.
Although that’s frustrating, it does give you an excuse to build another one…
Every cloud has a silver lining eh!
That silver lining is that my gluing skills from 20 years ago weren’t all that good, and I may be able to get her back together, as everything busted on the glue joints. And yes, the pilot did walk away; it’s amazing how good he is at escape and evasion[:D]
I thought it meant you could buy another kit to build lol.
It’s a sign from the modelling gods to get a new one.
Heh, THAT happened to me around Christmas time last year. My wife in a cleaning frenzy for our in-laws who were heading to our house from all over the world, was dusting the built-in book shelf in my office. She was dusting the shelf at the very top, standing on a ladder to get there, and hooked the cleaning rag on my S-100 Schnellboot, the kit that was my second kit on returning to the hobby after a 30+/- year hiatus. I picked the bits up off the floor, and informed her that NO ONE will be looking up there, and that she was done dusting there. She moved on.
The in-laws came and went, and we had no comments on our dusty house. [:)]

Makes you wonder why women feel a need to dust in places where you won’t SEE dust in high places.
Wow! The good thing is like you said. It was broken at the joints. Fortunately my son has never tried that. How’d yours get his hands on it?
