carentan diorama

hey, i am 15 teen who would like some help and ideas if able. this is my first diorama and i dont want to screw this one up. i actually have attemped this many time but have come up empty. i need some input from experienced modelers such as you guys.

the theme i am going for is a scene from the movie Band Of Brothers its the Carentan part. I have kind of drafted most of the diorama, except the actual battle. iam trying to set the scene around the first part where Lt. Winters oders his men down in to the town.

if anyone has any ideas, references, or anything that might help please help!

well, the first step would be planning. Watch the show on your comp, take screen shots of as much as you can for reference, if your basing it on the show. Get some paper or something thats the size of your base and draw out exactly where everything is going to be. That should be your first step

thanks, much is appreciated!!

i have ithe town already layed out on a card board box im sure that the same as the paper. and i was also wondering what should i use for the roads there. i saw an article of FSM and i forgot his name but ithe use split dried peas for his dio. idk if there is an easier way of creating something like this.

What kind of road are you trying to build? Flat road level with the ground surrounding, undented road, raised road? Dirty, cobblestone, paved?

well one side of the dio is a gravel road but i already know how to do that, i think dirty cobelstone and paved is what i wanted. and i planed to have bits of side walks and craters for both some effect.

im not sure though, if i should use that meathod cuz he made it sound like it was easy but i think it would be a hastle.

well first do your research, do alot of it. towns in France were ALOT diffrent then towns in America, alotof them didnt have paved roads. If your going to do cobblestone, there are a few ways. If your going to do craters I suggest building your dIo on a bit of styrofoam so you can get depth for the craters

ok thanks! so use foam under the street. was ther a nother method of the cobelstone???

Im not sure of any, but you could always use real stones, get flattish pebbles and stuff and put them down on the groundwork

oh ok, i’ll try it out. thanks alot.
