This is a bit of a paint question, but thought it may fit here in the Auto thread.
Does anybody out there have a color that they use to replicate the actual color of a carburetor? I’ve monkey’d around with a few different combinations, but cannot get satisfactory results.
I usually paint with acrylics but will also use Alclad occasionally.
I use Testors Bronze, brass, gold and flat aluminum on old style carbs. The new ones can be chrome silver with any clear color for second coat, like clear blue and red.
I also do that for gold finished carbs (I think they were cadmium plated). For the plain zinc diecast, I mix flat medium grey with aluminum- about 1:1.
