Captured russian armor '44-'45 camo question

Hello,

For a fun project on the side i am considering turning a 1944 russian tank(destroyer) into a captured german one.

Did the germans just leave their russian gear in the original green with their own crosses and markings painted over it or did they still use (for instance) the dunkelgelb/rotbraun/olivgrün camo’s? My searches on the web didn’t reveal anything conclusive…

Thanks in advance[;)]

I have pics in different books of captured Russian vehicles being repainted in to the base colors of the time period, either panzer gray or dark yellow. Most likely the camo colors would be used also. They also had oversize German markings to help prevent “friendly fire”. What type of TD did you have in mind?

Wow, that’s fast. Thanks![:D]

I am doing a russian SU-100 and i am just about to take it to the spraying booth. I have markings (indeed bigger ones) for a german version so i am still exploring the possible camo’s i can do with them.

It did came with interesting syrian markings too though…kinda “something else for a change”… choices choices…[:)]

The Germans would repaint captured Russian tanks as soon as possible to prevent misidentification. Oversized crosses and adding addition ones was SOP. Sometimes they even added makeshift schurtzen just to give the vehicles a more “German” look.

if it was my su-100…i’d do a winter camo with big crosses…yummy yummy!!![:P]

Made up my mind at work today and am going to go for the aforementioned german three tone camo, even if it would be less realistic or accurate. IMHO this TD just doesn’t cut it in plain russian green for me personally.

I can’t recall any pictures of 3-toned captured vehicles, but this box-art shows one possible example:
