I picked up this book at a library sale- published in 1947…
Very interesting read about the period and the USS Constitution…
I had an idea- I know there is a great group of Old Ironsides enthusiasts on this board. How about we pass this book around to anyone who is interested?
It’s about 300 pages and a smooth read so it should not take that long to get through…I should be done in a week.
Who wants to read it next?
I’b be happy to mail it to you- at Media Mail USPS rates it will coast $1.84 to mail…
After the next person reads it we can just keep it alive in this thread and pass it on…
Whaddya think? First person who replies in this thread that wants it gets it from me in a couple weeks…
It is a library binding- you know where they bind it in a one-color hardback and stamp the title and author on the spine…the pages look like the original from 1947 however and printing is in a very nice font…no ISBN number- those did not come into use until early to mid-1970’s…
Is this the book by Bruce Grant? If so, I’m sure it’s extremely readable. About twenty years ago another biography of Hull came out; it was written by a fine professional historian whose name (like so many other things) I can’t recall at the moment. It’s now considered the standard source on Hull’s life. It’s an outstanding piece of scholarship but a great cure for insomnia.
