The little Cant is advancing and I will finish the wing and engine completely before
I glue it to the “wing struts” for once glued I don´t want to touch it. This will be a “rescue”
plane which were either white with red crosses or bare metal with bright red stripes on top
of the wings.
The model is a solid wood (Mahogany), very small, winspan is only 8"
I’m right on the edge of trying my hand at my own solid build, mostly in part because of you. Your techniques caught my attention, and I said to myself, “Hey! I can do that!”
Now, how WELL I do it still remains to be seen! [:D]
Just a quick question. I won’t be able to have the luxury of using mahogony for my project. It’s a rather large one, and here in the States it would cost me a fortune. What I have available will be a mish-mash of different woods, hopefully mostly hardwoods. My question is what do you do to seal the grain of the wood so you can’t see it once a coat of piant goes over it?
I’m doing it for an art class, and I KNOW my instructor will probably have a heart attack when I tell him I want to paint wood, but I’ll have to explain that it’s all for a good cause!
Lucien…Good to know you will try a “solid”, am sure you will enjoy the process.
You can use Pine wood, it is a little on the hard side but many years ago many solid kits used
this wood, mainly for the price as you mention. I undersantand that some guys in the USA use
wood from “wood container boxes” (?). Try different woods for hardness and grain…good luck and have fun.
