Hey all…
Would like to get a model of the USS Greenwich Bay (AVP 41) , A ship that I was aboard in the late 60’s. She was quite the good looking old bucket that was comissioned in around 1944 as a seaplane tender and was being used as a flagship in the Persian Gulf when I was aboard as radioman. One of the few white painted ships during the time along with the USS Duxbury Bay (AVP 38) and USS Valcour (AVP 55). Managed to get lots of photos but cannot find model (any scale will do). Don’t want to get into the scratch building right now as I have a ton of other stuff going on. (OK…lazy!)
Any info will be really appreciated. Thanks much.
I checked out your your old boat. You’re correct, it was a fine looking ship. I don’t know if anyone has any seaplane tenders out there, but would wish you the best of luck finding one.
The sad truth of the matter is that only a very small percentage of USN ships have ever been made into kits. Your best chance is the resin kit market. The best way to tap into it is to go to the Steel Navy website, <www.steelnavy.com>. There you’ll find links to virtually all the resin kit manufacturers.
They bring out new releases pretty frequently. If you don’t have any luck today, it’s worth checking back periodically. Good luck.
Thanks for info jtilley. I will keep an eye open for the changes.
Revell made a USS Pine Island. The photo in the Remembering Revell book shows it as AP-12. Might want to look for it on the web and see if it is possible conversion material.
dhenning…Thank you for that info as I just may be able to do something with the Pine Island. Bit of difference topside but the hull looks about the same as Greenwich Bay and the experience certainly won’t do me any harm. Tks again.
