canopy

i have mold release dots and a few scratches on the canopy. What can i do to remove this… im sure this has been hashed out but thanks…

Rich

What type of canopy is it? Heavily framed, or a more modern bubble type canopy?

fine sand the release dots and then dip the canpoy in future, then let it cure for at least 48 hours

sharkskin, its a heavier 3 piece canopy for a piper cub, what grit sand paper would i use

Yep that also works for me, I use 1200 grit sandpaper.

You can use up to 1000 with no problems and slowly progressing down to finer grits.
Change the angle of the sanding when changing grits as this ensures no sanding marks are left unsanded.
After 1000grit u can continue sanding with a nail buffer.Make sure the next grit u are
using on the nail buffer is finer than 1000.Your final result should be a canopy with afine haze.Wsah it and dip it in future to finish off ,and then leave to dry in a air tight container for 2 days.

If you are unsure of using this method practice on a piece of clear sprue first.
Good Luck.

After getting down to really superfine sandpaper, I usually finish off with bare metal plastic polish. Just make sure you have a fresh bottle, because it separates permanently after sitting for years, and it won’t work at all. When the polishing cloth starts to squeak, you know you’re there. Great for taking that big seam from down the middle of an F-16 canopy. Scrape it off the protruding part of the seam with an adze of some sort (the edge of an X-acto knife or a real Squadron or Bare Metal model adze), then polish.
Tom

is the sandpaper used the wet/dry type? i can’t imagine sanding on the clear plastic and than dipping it in future will make the canopy clear, man, i’m i a greenhorn lol

thanks guys for the responses
