I’ve just finished painting those darn canopy frames on my P-38F. The problem is that the unpolished and un-futured glass still has an adamantine luster, while the rest of the plane has had hours spent on making it look like it has been sitting around in the north african desert sun and sand between grueling missions and heavy maintenance. Are there any SUBTLE ways to impart a slight haze that looks scale and realistic?
Never thought about it before. Try experimenting with some mixtures of clear flat and clear gloss on an old canopy or some clear plastic packaging.
You could try a VERY thin wash of Tamiya clear yellow. The sun tends to do this to perspex over a long period. Or just try it around the edges, that might make the rest of the canopy appear slightly discoloured, rather like a fibre optic effect.

Combat aircraft canopies are never allowed to become discolored, scratched, or dirty.
The reason? Simple…He who sees first gets to live in most cases. Canopies
were carefully polished by the crewchiefs before every sortie and replaced when they
showed any damage from sun or sand or battle.
