I was wondering if any of you guys airbrush acrylic paints on your airplane canopies. I’m having a dickens of a time getting the paint to stick. It works fine if I hand paint them but if I use a mask the paint tends to lift off. I’ve tried various tapes and liquid masks to no avail. I’ve even sanded the exposed areas after masking but to no avail. Any ideas Thanks
Take a new blade and cut around the masking before you try to lift it off the canopy?
Well I gave it my best shot but the paint still chipped off. The first canopy I coated with pledge masked and airbrushed on the acrylic paint. I cut around the tape with a sharp knife but it still chipped. The second canopy I coated the acrylic with dull coat cut with a knife and it stilled chipped

I forget where I read it, but I recently read that one shouldn’t wait until the paint is totally dried/cured before removing the tape for just this reason.
I didn’t wait very long before I removed the tape. I have much better luck hand painting but I use a 50/50 mixture of 91% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. I think it dries too fast on the canopy and gets clumpy. Today I “patched” the airbrush canopy using acrylic thinned with water and it seemed to go better. The problem I have with the hand painted canopies is that the paint invariably dries glossy but then I don’t feel to bad about coating the canopies with pledge to “seal” the acrylic paint
