My friend is having same trouble painting a canopy. The paint leached onto the clear sections, and has left a mess. My friend would like to know how to strip it back without damaging the part. Also, what is the best way to mask the canopy for brush painting. I seem to have trouble getting it right.[xx(][xx(]
Castrol Super Clean will remove most types of paints, however I have never tried it on clear parts so I have no idea whether it will cause them to fog or not. Try it on some clear scrap from the same manufacturer first to make sure it will not damage the parts.
As for masking canpoies there are as many techniques as there are modelers. I personally use Tamiya masking tape cut into very thing strips for the curved areas. Mask an outline of the pane, and then use wider pieces of tape to cover the remainder. I recall seeing this topic frequently in the “Techniques” section so you could also do a search there for other ideas.
I like Chameleon Paint Stripper for removing paint - takes about 20 minutes and won’t damage clear parts either. Before painting or masking that canopy it should be coated with Future. This will make fixing any additional errors much easier. What kind of paints are they? If it is acrylic just soak it in Future or local equivelent overnight and it’ll be good to go.
Thanks guys!! I have used acrylics, so I may use Windex, as was suggested to me. Once again, thanks for your help.[:D]
rubbing alchohol also works quite well. make sure you wipe it down to get all the paint off!
