I’ve used Bare Metal Foil for masking canopies before painting. I 've done this prior to treating the canopy with Future and recently tried it after coating with Future. In both cases the foil left glue behind that was a pain to get rid of. Anyone find a way to solve this problem?
I’ve also tried liquid mask without much luck. Any suggestions for an easy masking technique?
A product you can pick up at just about any supermarket. Goo Gone is what it’s called, and it gets all kinds of tape residue like that off. Great stuff.
Last months FSM had an article on techniques for masking canopies. If you leave Bare Metal foil on for any length of time it will leave a residue. Madda’s suggestion for Goo Gone is good, it works well.
I have had good success with using the referenced FSM article on this subject. I let Future cure for at least 72 hours before masking before using blue long mask tape and have never had a problem with residue.
I’m with Mike - All the articles in FSM always tell you to let the Future cure for 48 hours, but I’ve always let mine dry 4-5 days - paranoia, I guess - and I’ve never had a problem with Bare Metal Foil leaving adhesive behind - I always apply it just before I spray, and remove it as soon as possible. Saves trouble later.
