I’m doing a Matchbox Canberra PR9 as a quick build on the UAMF forum. thought you guys mignt like a looksee at progress. The idea is to build the kit in 24 hours start to finish. Kinda mad, kinda fun but a good AMS stopper.
First piccie. sprue shot and clock to time the build.
Progress after one hour.
and after a further 20 mins before I took a break from the bench and MEK fumes.
The red around the nose is a spacer piece, The Matchbox kit’s nose was missing and I robbed the nose from an Airfix B57. it was too short and slightly the wrong shape so I used some 3mm plastic card I had and will be using filler and sanding the correct shape early tomorrow.
Great looking progress Greg. I really can’t believe how some of you guys crank these out so fast, and do such beautiful work! My hat’s off to you fellas. [^]
update time. I’ve been out and about today and thus away from the bench but here’s an update with piccies. as she stands now the first coat is on the underside (I’ve just put the paint on before typing this) here are the latest piccies starting with the last ones from last night.
filler monster, more a problem with the filler than anything as the green stuff had thickened somewhat.
primer coat on and first coat of green.
two coats of the green and for some reason it needed three coats of dark sea grey to cover.
last pic was taken just before painting the underside with the first coat of lt ac grey. I’m a bit behind where I wanted to be but I should manage it on time.
OK guys. the beastie is don as far as I can, the damn carpet moster got one of the nav lights and I spent far too much time looking for it. still no idea where it is. Here’s the piccies. Finished all bar that one light. starting with progress pics and then the finished(ish) article.
there ya goes. all decaled and painted. now I’ll get back on with my search for that light lense.
Cheers Frank. yep my counsellor said I’m crazy. so I’m studying to become a counsellor. have to be nuts to be one [party][8-]
Thanks for the nice words on the Canberra. it’s a pretty easy kit really except stuffing it with all that noseweight. 40 grams in this one to stop it sitting on it’s rear. we do two blitzbau’s (Lightning builds) on the UAMF per year and I’m trying to get it to four so if you like sign up and join the fun.
Cheers guys. I’ve now found and fitted the missing lens. One thing doing these 24 hour builds does is strech your planning and time management skills. after starting this one I get two phone calls which between them took me out of the house for quit a few hours messing with the plan. This is not my quickest build however. I did this Harrier in only 9 hrs build time (and thats with waiting for stuff to dry)
One other thing about doing these quick builds. It’s a good AMS buster.
Thank you Jeremias. Airfix will be doing a 48th scale B2/B20 kit but not for a short while. If the test shots and the sprues for the other 1/48th canberra’s are anything to judge it by it will be a great model. Hope this helps.
Ha! It takes at least 48 hours for me to stop droolingover new styrene! Don’t believe me? Take a look at the Weekend Warrior GB2! What was supposed to be a 48 hour beuild ended up being a week!
I read that Airfix will release the B.2 in 2009 (I hope) so let´s wait, I wanted to buy the C.A. kit export version (with the decals to build an argentinean Mk.62) but is out of production now and way to expensive, so waiting is my only option now…
