Can you tell that I live in the boonies?

I mean, aside from having no LHS. [;)]

Taking a break from modeling this morning, was in the basement on my trainer when I saw some movement outside the sliding glass door (walkout). Turns out these three were standing right on the other side eating my lawn. Had to go grab the camera for some of you “city guys”. Heh.

Boonies indeed!Sounds and looks like heaven to me.I hate the city.

Cool picture.

I live in a genuine suburban area which was built up in late 40’s. I’ve seen deer tracks within a couple hundred yards of the house. There’s a flood control reservoir, once used for skating less than a block away. I’ve seen fox, muskrat and beaver there. We’ve had 'possum, skiunk and racoon in the yard. I’ve seen bobcat and coyote within a couple miles from the house. But the neatest thing is we have several flying squirrel who visit our bird feeders at night. They’ve even been out during the last couple weeks. Last summer, I was able to get within arms length of them.

Well we did have a Nilgai collide with a Ford Ranger in front of my house a couple of years ago…

It’s the country life for me!

NICE !!! [tup]

I have those same guys just over my back fence. They are pretty, I suppose, and to many they lend a certain rustic air to life away from the city. But, I have lived in both places and I take a slightly more ‘askance’ view of deer and their antics.

There’s a fence at my place for 2 reasons:

  1. To keep certain critters in.

  2. To keep certain critters out.

Deer are in the latter category. They can tear up a garden in a minute, and seem to really love the tender stuff - just as it’s getting a foothold. They also drive the chickens mad, which is never good and the dogs… well the normally well mannered dogs go just plain stupid when they are around.

All this talk of rural niceness is well, nice, but these are wild animals. While it’s not the urbanites fault, they usually miss this simple concept. After all, years of ‘Happy Feet’ and ‘Bambi’ have skewed their view of Nature.

In truth, deer and other wild critters are best kept where they belong… in the wild. Well, at least until hunting season comes around.

How do you load pics ? I have a pic of a little brown bear eating under the Pear tree I took this fall.

Yummy deer steak! [dinner]

Open an account at Photobuket or some other photo hosting site. Upload your pictures. Once there, click on the bottom most box, labled " IMG Code." That will copy the address to your clipboard. Open a message box over here, right click your mouse and choose “Paste.” It’s just that simple.

A Nilgai? WTH is a Nilgai? [D)]

Al - didn’t know that flying squirrels came as far north as Massachusetts. Learn something every day, I guess. [;)]

Doesn’t look like I have the pics on this pc (probably at home) but I should throw up some I have of the moose that was watching me watch sportscenter through my living room window one morning last summer. Heh. [:O]

Just checked, flying squirrels range as far north as Alaska and Nova Scotia.

Here you go Dupes…all you wanted to know about Nilgai but were afraid to ask…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nilgai

They were introduced into Texas as a sport hunting animal and have taken hold fairly solidly as a result.

Boy,you ain’t kidding!Good stuff!

I’ll be chasing brookies sometime in August. Not too far from Rangely (I know a couple Rangely girls).

gary

we had a moose in our driveway deer in our gardens and a coyote on the deck, not too mention the snake i killed by sitting on.

While I live in the city out of necessity more then preference, I don’t really consider myself a city guy. I mean come on, when I see that picture, in my mind it automatically converts to this.

They look tasty to me.

NO!!! not that one

LMFAO OMFG That’s too funny.

I [#ditto]

I had to leave the room one day when I was over at a friends and his wife was reading “Bambi” to his kids. It sounds stupid I know but, some of this stuff is like extreme animal rights propaganda that we are using to brainwash our kids.

Ok deep breath…

One of the funny wild animal saga’s where we live is the Ground Hog saga. They were causing havok in my mothers garden. We trapped them (live animal, I just don’t like steel jaws, plus the cats) we shot them, and we put out scents to drive them off. Then we finally had to bury a fence all around the garden. Needless to say I mention a couple of weeks ago to my mother that ground hog day was coming up. She said that that day isn’t quite as warm and fuzzy as it used to be. Around where we live if a ground hog pokes it’s head out it better make sure no one’s around with a gun first.

Grizz

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAA…ohhhh I’m crying over here. [BH] Too good!
