I was applying decals to my Bf109 and some Solvaset ran down one of the wings and before I noticed it had softened the Future, leaving a slightly discolored run mark.
Assuming it had only just happened I attempted to dab it up with a blue shop towel and unfortunately now I have blue paper fibers stuck in the finish. It’s not a lot but it is noticeable. I’m wondering if it is safe to sand down the affected area with some 2000 grit sandpaper. I assume some clouding may occur but I expect it will disappear once I reapply a fresh coat of Future.
Gentle sanding and reapplying as you outlined should work a treat, or you could just remove the Future on the affected area with ammonia-based glass-cleaner and reapply. Either should be fine. (Mind, if the undercoat is acrylic paint, the window-cleaner thing will have to be done verrrry carefully.)
Thanks gents. I did consider lightly wiping with Windex until the layer came off but this is only the first or second layer of gloss I applied before applying the decals. Too close to the base coat for my comfort.
Just an update for anyone who may find this thread searching for the same answer in the future (lol no pun intended). The Future sanded just fine with 2000 grit paper. I even added a couple drops of water to the surface for good measure. I sanded very lightly, wiping away the residue with a microfiber cloth until the paper towel fibers were gone. Unfortunately, this being only the first or second light coat (pre-decal) of Future, it was quite thin and although I had a light touch, sanded through the paint a couple of times. I just masked, re-sprayed the color and followed it with a fresh coat of some more Future. The end result was good, you can’t tell there was ever an issue in the affected spots. Thanks for the feedback guys, and anyone else who happens to read this and is wondering, you can sand Future and it holds up well and subsequent coats really evens out the finish again pretty quickly.
