Can you give me some money?

This is a picture of one of my flower beds. You are probably asking yourself, “Why is he showing us his flower bed?” The answer is below.

I was doing my Spring cleanup of the flower beds this week. It takes days to get these beds cleaned up and ready for Summer. I am 70 years young and every year it takes longer and longer to clean these beds. This morning I was raking the bed when a healthy white guy in his 40’s walks over to me and says, “Hi mister, I lost my job and I could use some money. Can you give me some money for my family?” I was in a charitable mood so I said, " I have about four hours of yard work left. If you help me, we can get this done in two hours. I’ll pay you $200 for two hours yard work." He said to me, “Work??? I don’t want to work. I just want some money.” I said, “Is this a ‘f’ing’ SNL skit or is this ‘f’ing’ Candid Camera?” He said, “Oh, so you won’t help?” I told him to leave using my best ‘steel worker’ vocaublary. Can you imagine the gall?

Not a bit surprised with what this has done to the economy. Good job by the way on sending him on and that garden is outstanding.

Nowadays? Yeah, I can. $50 to 100/hour, I’d jump on that!

Gorgeous garden JohnnyK, probably good that fella didn’t take the job…probably would have “fertilized” the flowers.

Crazy people in the world today.

Hey!

You live to far away. Gorgeous Garden. You Bet ! I would help for what you offered and be darned glad you were so generous! I am almost 77 with a bad back. I would at least try !

Wow, just wow.

Now I feel like a cheapskate - I paid my coworker’s son $100 for 8 hrs of HEAVY yard work involving a chainsaw and hauling tree branches 14 feet long (I measured, ‘cause we had to figure how many cuts needed to be made to fit in the truck).

The rate was negotiated (and approved by his parents), but next time I call him over I’m doubling his pay.

I have a healthy looking brown guy, different every day, come by and offer to clean up my yard, haul trash, dig holes etc. for $ 25/ hr. “Cousins” of a guy I know, so trustworthy.

I’ll send four of them over if I can have your address.

Unreal… I’d do it for 2 hours and $200.

That is one of those ‘truth is stranger than fiction’ things, isn’t it?

Lovely garden! [Y]

Sounds like the bums at the freeway exits… offer to buy ‘em a meal and many will pass… just want money for meth and/or booze, or whatever their mind bender of choice happens to be…

These bums want money for booze or drugs. Years back I remember my father in law having some homeless guy ask him for money. My father in law told him he would’t give him money but would buy him a meal instead. The homeless guy tod him to Fu%k off! This was a good 25 years ago so nothing has changed.

By the way JK beautiful garden. [Y]

Thanks for the comments regarding the garden. That garden is the result of 30 years of loving care.

JK…that is an awesome garden! Very nice! $200 for 2 hours of work?! Heck yeah! I would have done all the work for you for $200! LOL! Of course, right now I’d do the work for a couple rolls of TP! LOL!

Beautiful garden! We’ve had a week of good weather so I’ve put in the Sring/ Summer vegetables available so far.

Collard greens, escarole, pole beans, peas and tomatoes. Basil in the window.

Squash not available yet, and soil/ ammendment SOLD OUT!

Thats a sign of good mental health.

Keep it up, folks.

There are a pair of men, older father, son pushing 40. Their job is at the interstate exit where Ford, UPS and GE workers get off to go towards their factories.

Right along side the exit are convenience stores, fast food restaurants and a few smaller industries that provide items to the bigger factories. Paper Cone and Emerson are two of them.

Each of these businesses have help wanted signs. One of the small factories has a job fair fairly frequently with big white tent, balloons, etc.

These two guys have been at the exit for the 7+ years I’ve worked at GE. Coworkers say they’ve been there for much longer. It’s literally their jobs to panhandle at the exit.

They park in a vacant lot of an old restaurant, some say they have a nice car.

Beautiful garden. You made a very generous offer. This guy is super lazy and has zero ambition. Can’t imagine how he lost his “job”.

Beautifull garden. The rest is holly [cnsod]

“Welcome to Mexico señor! Where are you going?.. Try my cousin Enrique’s unemployment shop…”

Cheech & Chong Big Bambu

You have a beautiful garden there. Time well spent.

I will pay you $200 dollars for a personal tour… Just have to wait until Im able to travel half way around the world to see it.
