Can you get Krylon in Australia?

Hello Again fellow forumites!

Good to see all the activity in these forums - plenty of building going on!

My question is about a good primer that is available in Australia. I have been using Tamiya Primer from the can which is good but costs minimum ten bucks over here and only lasts for one and a bit models.

Is there something cheaper that I can purchase locally that won’t wipe out the fine details once it is applied or the budget? Is Krylon or its equivalent available in Australia or could I use any grey primer in a spray can? Just trying to cut a few costs so that I can make my projects look good whilst saving a few dollars for my next kit. I have purchased a Badger Anthem airbrush but have not started using it yet - any suggestions would have to be in spay can form.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven’t used Krylon a lot on models, everything else in the house, but not models. IMO, from what little I have use it, it tends to cover up small detail more than the Tamiya primer. I use the Tamiya stuff a lot and have had excellent results with it. Admitedly I don’t spray the Krylon with my airbrush as some do, and I might get smoother results that way, but I don’t spray the Tamiya that way either. Could easily just be the way I have used Krylon, but personally I prefer the Tamiya.

I am in Tasmania and i get the Krylon from the local “Spotlight” store in their art and craft section. Actully most craft stores seem to have it in stock here :o)

Thanks for the info Dolittle and Music City. I must admit that the Tamiya primer does give a great finish. I guess I’ll have to look at it from the view that if you spend up to 40 hours building a kit, $9.95 worth of primer is not so bad.

40 hours?? I’m 90 hours into my F-105 and I’ll probably close up the fuselage tomorrow. Maybe 1/4 done [:)]

I really like Tamiya primer, and it goes a pretty long way. I primed all of the outside and parts of the insides of two 1/32 scale models on one can. From my point of view, it’s worth it.

cept it doesnt have enough propellent. i had one of those little bottles last a 4 years, but it stopped working cause of lack of propellent. still like 1/8 full

Punch a hole in the can, pour it into a bottle and spray it through an airbrush.
