Bah, I can’t believe I bought two more kits!!! I already have enough! I’m just a HUGE sucker for a good deal. Shipping was only $6.95 for USPS Priority, and I should have them in hand by the time my 3 day weekend begins on Friday. Why do people shy away from damaged/warped boxes on eBay? Especially when it comes to MPC/ERTL or AMT kits, they have TONS of extra space around the parts in the box! I got the 2005 Millenium Falcon for $13.49 much in the same way as these two kits.

A total of $18.94 for two kits is like getting a discount on one, the second model is free and both come with free shipping (I’ve been watching how much these models go for on eBay, they usually command around $26 + S&H on average). Who says you can’t get a good deal on eBay? [:D] Honestly, I’m done buying. I’m clearing my “Watched Items” list and staying off of eBay for a while… but there is that one Dremel 219 speed control I’ve wanted… [;)]

I’m the same way, open box damaged box who cares as long as all the parts are there (I do tend to avoid the ones where the inner bags are open unless the seller seems positive all the parts are there), I’ve also bought a number of started kits or kits that are missing parts as long as I can get a good look at the kit in the pictures, so I know what I’m getting, if the price is right I can always use it for parts or kit bash it.

The only thing that box does is keep you from the plastic. Great score!

Matt

Alright, I’m not the only one. Almost every kit in my stash has some bargain story attached to it. I rarely pay full price if I can help it. I still remember the look on the store owner’s face when I demanded a deal on that Star Trek Enterprise B with the box all crunched! It all builds the same I say!

LOL guys, this isn’t exactly the kind of help I was expecting. You’re all true friends in my mind! Yeah, Bargains are the bain of my existance. I always spend so much money in the name of a “bargain.” I’m just glad Wendy understands, I’m sure she knows my guilty conscience is going to catch up to me and her payoff will be something spectacular. Hmm, maybe a nice vacation somewhere is in order?

Hope she’ll be OK with me dragging a few kits with me on the trip… heheh.

OOOOOH Enterprise B…I want one of those soooo bad! But not going to pay $25 plus and shipping on top of that for one. Not to mention what the Enterprise E goes for. I like the dented boxes or lack of box deals. But even those are getting harder to grab as a Voyager kit with a trashed box I was watching went for around $36 bucks…[%-)]

Matt

What did you expect us to say “Oh no Jon you really need to curb that habbit.” Yeah right[;)]Some example we would be…[:D]

LONG LIVE THE STASH!!!

Matt

If your having difficulty reconciling the fact that you got 2 kits for the price of one
Then you could send the speeder bike to me and throw in the shipping for it.

Just trying to help in whatever small way I can. lol

Great score! Don’t stop!

Sorry to be the devil on your shoulder, but just my opinion.

Yeah, you guys are right. I just can’t keep breaking my promise of “I promise not to purchase any more models until I either build everything in my stash, or get most of it gone.” that I made to the Wife. She’s been so supportive and I don’t want her to feel burned by my purchases. . I can feel better about this purchase because I know RC2 is only offering the X-Wing in the snaptite configuration, and I don’t know if the new 2005 Speeder Bike is the old mold. From way back when, when I had a Speeder Bike I remember it had good scale but poor fit. I would rather buy something that I knew what to expect from, instead of getting into a whole new bag of problems.

Shrugger,

Nice try! I almost started to ask for your address… [;)]

EDIT: Once these kits are in, I’m going to take a picture of my stash so you fellas can see how many kit’s I’ve bought over the last 2 1/2 months.

Man, you know cannot ask a bunch of fellow addicts how to kick the habit!LOL I tried hiding how bad my addiction was from the wife but once you fill up the hall closet, part of the bed room closet, part of the garage and a small corner in the kitcen, well let me tell you the jig is up! Don’t even let me tell what is still at mother’s house! Once I discovered the wonder and awe that is e-bay and 50% off coupons of Hobby lobby i was cursed. I can now afford my hobby due to all these “cheap buys” now I have more kits than time! [:D]

Model building is a cruel mistress but boy does she put out![}:)]

(Hey I thing I’ll make that my new sig!)

If you have money, and functional hands and eyes you’re doomed. Sorry.
Everytime I promise myself not buy anymore kits I found a stupid pretext to brake the promise: “It’s a great deal…”, “It’s my first time at modelfiesta…”, “It’s an OOP kit, I may never see it again”, blah, blah, blah.
I’m actually surprised so many things fit under my bed.

I’ve built that one. It’s all weathered & scratched based on movie frames. It’s striped up like Red Five and has a detailed R2 unit. The pilot in the box is horrible. The pilot I used was a 1/48 Apache helicopter pilot, but I still had to shorten the torso to make him fit. Looks just like an X-wing pilot. Painted his helmet as Luke’s, of course, since the ship is Red Five. That model… it’s not great, but skills can make it great.

I just remembered a pic of it that I have from a not-so-good camera. I will soon take better pics of it. Here it is:

Nicely done X-Wing jdavidb. I’m hoping to get mine all purtied up! OK, time to get back to listing stuff I don’t need anymore on eBay!

Well, guys, years ago I gave up trying to fool myself into believing that I’ll stop buying kits. Ain’t going to happen. Ever. I love to both build and collect kits (see my thoughts on this topic in the “Revell Moon Ship” thread on this board). I have a couple hundred kits (on a variety of modeling subjects) all neatly stacked and stored on nice racks up in my hobby room. All the long time modelers I know have the same kind of kit stash, some of them truly astonishing in size. All of them! We’re all kit collectors. And I don’t ever expect to build them all, either. So there. LOL! (All my vintage unbuilt kits will one day be an Old Age Annuity!) Frankly, what’s the fun of a model collection that’s completely built? For me, I like to go upstairs to my own personal hobby store and “shop” for the next building project. I love doing it–it gets the juices flowing… I’m never at a loss for something to build. I love to look through various boxes at the sprues, the aftermarket detail frets, the box top art , plan sheets (and any book references on my bookshelves) for the proper Inspiration. I just did this ritual again (for the umpteenth time) on the latest project on my workbench. Call it Zen and the Art of Modeling Building. (“You must let go your conscious feelings and let the Styrene flow through you.”) This, plus all the new kits coming out, keeps our hobby constantly fresh for me.

Amen brother! I too, go through all of the kits and dream up plans and write them down and put it in the box and just wait til its time to do that particular kit.

LOL! Me too! I have kits in the closet not with notes scribbled on the instrution sheets of potential wiring diagrams and color schemes. i love 'parusing through my colletion of kits too. I love that feeling you get when you “rediscover” one of your old kits for the first time. That’s what happened last week when i dug up my two old AMT Refit Enterprises. Both they and my Dremels await me when i get off from work!lol

Well guys (and gals), thanks for the “help”, LOL. Some intervention this was! The kits came in today and let’s just say I’m a bit stoked and fired up over building these, especially the Speeder Bike! Apparently the Speeder Bike is a first release, when it was just an MPC kit, ERTL is nowhere to be found on the box or instructions. Speaking of instructions, they look real strange to me but only because I’ve never seen the MPC instructions before.

Can’t wait to get started, I have a few ideas running around in this empty noggin of mine for the Speeder Bike.
