Ok guys, if anyone has some references of Stuarts or just some pictures from the war I would really appreciate some help. I am currently building the academy M3A1 Stuart and have run into some questions.
I am looking for a Stuart that had:
-the horseshoe welded turret
-without the cupola
-with, or without the riveted plate armor on the side of the main body of the vehicle
-without the drop tanks fitted
-and not one of the diesels.
Does anyone know if such a vehicle existed, and if so, what units, and theaters of war it fought in?? I am looking for markings for my Stuart. I have not decided whether the rivets on the side of the hull will stay, but other than that, this is the tank I hope to model.
Also, did the M3A1s without the rivets in the side hull armor still have the rivets on the rear and top of the vehicle?
LOL, I told myself that this one would be out of the box. Well, so much for that idea…[:-^]
Any help you guys might be able to give me would be greatly appreciated.[:D]
Mitchison, thanks for the info. I think I am looking for a model of Stuart that was in production just before the all welded hull was adapted. Thanks again though.
Beans, great link, some excellent close ups of the vehicle with and without the rivets. These are the exact 2 models of Stuart that I am considering modeling. Does anyone know what units these vehicles may have been attached to??
Thanks Mark, a little luck can never hurt.[:D]
Sherm, those line drawings would be great if you don’t mind. What source are they from? esarmor@hotmail.com
Thank you all. I appreciate all the responses. And don’t worry Caveman, I was able to view the drawings, thanks. As it so happens, Sherm emailed me the same line drawings in 1/35th scale, very nice of him to do that. Once again, thanks to all. I will try to get some pics up for you guys as soon as possible. May have to wait till after finals though.
The M3A1 was used by the US Marines and Army in the South Pacific. Also, Acacemy’s interior isn’t very accurate… which is sad, since there are so many super nice, restored M3’s they could’ve referenced.
Oh, Forgot, they were also used in the North African campaign by the US (that famous picture of ‘Tiger’ knocked out, which the kit depicts) but I think all of them used the drop fuel tanks.
