A great build…until the application of a complicated 3 color hard camo scheme. Anyone have some good tips on how to deal with some color bleed under the masked areas? I have tried just touching up the bleeds with a brush in the past on previous builds and the color always seemed not to match (gloss/texture). Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Try drybrushing the base color over where the color bled under. This should sufficiantly blend them back together and cover up the offending color. Lastly, hit it all with a couple coats of dulcoat to bring all the colors to the same level of flatness.
From looking at the pictures with the Silly Putty on it, it appears as though you need to make sure the putty is in contact with the model at all points. The places where a single color goes from the hull to the turret seem to be the most prominent. Pretty neat technique - how many times can you use a given bit of putty before it becomes too gunked up with paint?
BTW, what is this a model of, and where did you get that funky camo scheme. The yellow bit looks like an “Aim Here, Flyboys” aid rather than actual camo…
Yes, making sure the putty is in contact is one of the tricks. I use toothpicks, the oposite end of the Exacto handle, etc. to get uniform contact. Also don’t pick up the model by grabbing the putty. It will stick to your finger better than the model.
I’ve never reused it. I did not want to chance other paint specks on new paint job.
It’s a FineMolds Type 97 “Te-Ke”. This is a type of camo the Japanese used at one time. I tried to match the box, and the pics of some on the net. I hope I got the colors close.
