calling F-15 experts...

Ok, I’ve found a set of decals Ive been searching years for. 49th TFW out of Holloman AFB NM Now I need to decide what kit to put them on. I know Holloman flew the F-15A atleat they did in the early 80’s when I was there. I dont know if they ever went with a newer model. I have several kits by Monogram but Im not sure what variant they are. Searching for a better quality kit I came across Hasagawas Streak Eagle. Whats the difference between this and the A version. Ive been able to find alot of C versions. Whats the difference between those two?

Also while trying to do some research on these planes I found out that Holloman also flew F-4’s can any one give me any info on this? I was 10yrs old when I left Holloman and only remember them having F-15s and AT-38’s

I’m no expert and I’m not at home to consult my “library” but externally the only give away would be the main wheelhubs and maybe a cooling vent or two. I would say “featherless” afterburner cans, but a lot of A’s had theirs removed later on. I don’t remember if the tires were wider or not which would mean bulged wheel well covers like on the E’s. I’m sure the real experts will be along shortly!

I don’t know if they ever received F-15C/D aircraft, but don’t think so because in 1992 Holloman transitioned to the F-117A. Currently they fly the 117’s and the T-38 (other than the German AF aircraft that have been flying there for many years).

Sorry about the delay. I’m surprised none of the “Eagle Experts” added any comments. But according to the Detail and Scale the only external differences betweent he A and C were the different wheel hubs and wider tires. My memory wasn’t so bad after all.

I’m more of a helo expert, but the F-15 has always had a place in my heart.

There are a few minor external differences between the A and C model F-15s. If I remember correctly, there is a difference in the panel contours aft of the speed brake as they extend back between the engines. There are some differences in location of blade antennae too. Also, the turkey feathers on the engines were removed on most early F-15s. From what I’ve found in my sources (World Airpower Journal and Detail & Scale) the 49th TFW never got C models.

Hope that helps!
