I just bought a decal sheet for a Bf-109 G-6AS nightfighter version (Green 5 from the Luftwaffe im Focus book) and now need a suitable kit to put them on. I haven’t found a G-6AS kit, but I’ve read that there were minor differences between the G-6AS and the G-10. Guess my question is what would I have to modify on a G-10 kit (probably Hasegawa) to get an accurate G-6AS? Are there other versions I could modify also, say the G-14?
Hello Jeff. Have you tried out this website for some idea’s? Here is the link, it is all about 109’s and I find it an interesting site: http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/index1024.htm
I hope it can give you some ideas Sir.
Funny thing I’ve been kicking around doing a G-6/AS as well. The big problem is there no real easy way to make one. The G-10 kit hasegawa will not easy give you a accurate G-6/AS. There were 2 different cowling used on the 6/AS and 6/ASy. One is similer to the G-10 the other is very different on the right side. Other big differences are the oil cooler. All 6/AS and almost all but a few of the very late builds 14/AS used the smaller oil cooler. The 6/AS also did not any featrues of the D powered 109’s. So in a nut shell if you want to make hasegawa G-10 into a G-6/AS you looking cutting the nose off of a G-6 below the exhaust from the prop the the rear of the cooler and fitting it to the G-10. Then you wouild have to do some rescribing and adding/delete detail to the rest of the mechine to get everthing else right. quick version.
Now I just found out fujimi did make a G-14/AS. From what I have been able to see this kit with far less mods should make a G-6/AS or ASy. I have not seen this kit in person so I im waiting to see for myself before I render any decision I won it on evilbay a couple of day ago. when I get it I’ll go into more detail. My though is that will be the way to go.
I see one other problem with your build. Usually night fghters were equipted with bad weather/ night fighter gauges and had a few differences in the cockpit. Off the top of my bean I can’t say for sure.
The 6/AS I plan on doing will have the rare cowling on it. But if that’s the ticket, I’ll give you details as to mods to make an accurate G-6/AS out of it. My thought (hope) is there will be few changes needed to the fujimi kit. Ebay had 3 of these a week ago.
