Calling All Lawyers...

Hi

Guy/Gals

I know this is not a Armor question… but Zi use this fourm the most and it really doesn’t fit anywhere. So here goes…

I want to setup a NON-PROFIT website… that will contain the instruction sheet from new and old model kits that modeler’s may have lost. Since instruction sheets are copyrighted… is this legal… or should I contact the manfacture for permission?

Thanks

Scott

That’s a good question. I’ve often wondered this myself. Does anyone know?

Can’t answer the question but if you contcat Matt Swan at swannysmodels.com.… he has the sheets for the kits he has built on his site. He might have investigated that already and maybe able to answer.

got a bad link to swannys site thier wing. was wodnering were it went too.

Link good. Brain bad. Fixed.

Scott: Don’t know its legality but Hobby Search 1999 Japan already has many scanned in their database:

I suppose if you maintained an INDEX of already published materiel, that would be ok?

I’m not sure if you are aware of this, but there is an MSN Group site which already does this, the Military Vehicle Resource Center. http://groups.msn.com/wwIIMVRCIIII/homepage.msnw Whether this is in breach of copyright or not,I don’t have a clue.

I look at it from a different way. If I bought something and I can help somebody else with it then I do what I want.

I don’t know this to be FACT, but here’s what I believe is the case:

You can reproduce copyrighted material so long as you don’t claim it’s yours and give proper credit to the originator ( which a scan would do automatically), and so long as you don’t sell it.

It’s also a service to the manufacturer. They will provide replacement instructions if asked, but if there was a site where the instructions were already available, then it would save them money by not having to mail them out.
