Hi gang.I figure at least 1 person is a Chemist,or anyone, really.I was brousing the latest MicroMark And saw there page that has adhesives.Though I use all 3 [ there’s more zap glue than just those 3 ] And having used them all for it’s specially,Does anyone know if there is differance in strenth.I use fine&fast regular CA,medium, and thickest. For example,is 1 better than the others on resins, same que.on PE’s,and of course plastic.I could’nt find any info as to which 1 is stronger or which 1 is weakest. Thanks ahead, rudedog
Since no chemist has answered your questions in the last 5 hrs let me just state that from personal experience i have not found any difference in the strength of one CA glue compared to another . Thats just my opinion and it could be wrong .
It would seem we suffer from a lack of chemists in the Armor forum! [:D]
From my pedestrian knowledge, the thickness of the glue relative to the strength of the bond doesn’t really change between the different types of glue as CA bonds are not “morphic” in the sense of MEK type glues like regular model cement. They form a strong crystalline layer between the two bonded surfaces for lateral strength but very weak shear strength. The reason for different thicknesses on the glue has more do with varying needs on what/how the bonds need to be created (thin glue will “flow” with capillary action whereas thicker glue will just be a blob wherever you apply it, etc.). For larger pieces, thicker glue is usually the way to go, for smaller/precise bonds, the thinner stuff may work better. That’s really the only difference, except of course the thinner stuff is more likely to dry/bond faster and do things like glue everything together except the two desired surfaces if not careful. Thanks Shellback,& Wild bill, you sound like a chemist.I gather your from a basic school of, Not the type of CA glue, but the right 1 for the application.Thanks. rudedog
