Here are some pics of Monogram’s 1/48 C-47 Skytrain. I’ve added a few details and I’ll be replacing all the “glass” with thin clear sheet. I’m also in the process of scratchbuilding new wheel wells. They are poorly represented in the kit.
I’m building this as a “mini dio,” which calls for crew figures. I added little “Screaming Eagles” patches & flags to their shoulders.
Nine paratroopers come with the kit, but there three of each pose. I don’t think they had clones in the 101st !
Thank you tigerman, Rick, fightnjoe, reggie, ipms33206, pingtang, Pedro, yardbird, and tweety !
reggie - the belts are molded to the seats. They are probably the most crisply molded part of the kit !
tweety - sorry, my friend. You just lost your hat. Detail painting is one of my favorite parts of building models. Putting the layers of paint on the figures was the most tedious. It took about two weeks to get to this point ! I still have to paint the buckles, glosscoat the leather jacket, and do a little touchup.
Well, seeing as how you like detail painting, I’m going to scratchbuild the floor of a C-119 this year, LOTS of rollers.
Might send it too ya for the dry brushing[;)]
Pixilater, great job on your C-47 Skytrain.
Im building the Italeri 1/72 C-47.
I was wondering if you had began building the wings. Particularly the engines. My Italeri included three types of exhuasts. Do you have any idea which exhuast would build the correct C-47 for the D-Day landings?.
The exhuasts were molded in three variations a long , medium and short one.
Pix,good looking bird you got going can’t wait to see it finished. Are you going to put any of the troopers in the C-47 or have one or two climbing in?Digger

Is the C-47 the DC-3 converted for military use and the workhorse of WWII and D-Day? If so, is it an old or new kit and where can I get one? 1/48? Thought the only C-47’s were in 1/72 and smaller?
Thanks,
Steve Gorder
Yes, the C-47 is the militarized version of the DC-3. The Monogram kit was first released in '78, and I got this one in '01 as part of Monogram’s “Classic” releases. I haven’t seen it at the big internet hobby shops, but it’s probably still available if you do some exploring. eBay might be a good bet. It’s not a bad kit, considering it’s age. The panel lines are raised, and the wheel wells are lacking.
