Here are a couple shots of the work that got done on Monorgram’s 1/48 C-47 this weekend.
Thanks to those that replied to the pics of the engines. The thread disappeared pretty quickly, so I won’t dig it back up.
I got the airframe assembled this evening. There was a step along the top of the fuselage that was resisting my attempts to tame it. I won in the end. The wingroots were pretty good. I filled small gaps with white glue. The kit has raised panel lines, but I replaced those that disappeared with engraved ones. It’s usually pretty tough to tell the difference under a coat of paint.
The clear sheet windows work pretty well. You can still see the cockpit and cabin through them.
Hiya Pix,
Oooo love the C-47…!!! I saw your engine thread and MAN, they looked sweet… What did you use to highlight the details.
What scheme are you going to put this bird in?? Is this the build that you had talked about using some paratroopeers with?
Looking forward to the finished build. Thanks for sharing.
Flaps up, Mike
sure is looking good! how do you deal with that step on the fuselage ive got a large one on my B29
never saw the engine thread, guess ill have to search for it.
Thanks Butz, Randie, Matthew, Brtan, Josh, Rick, and Jerry !
Butz - I painted the cylinders flat black, and drybrushed with MM steel enamel. The crankcases were painted RLM 66 and Futured. The pushrods and ignition wires were brushed with Future. I used MM brass for the bolts on the faces. The ring is MM chrome silver.
I’ll be using D-Day markings from an Eagle Strike sheet. This will be on a base with three paratroopers and a pilot (kit figures).
Matthew - I use a Canon PowerShot G5, five megapixels.
Josh - I cut down the step by scraping the high side with a #10 (curved) blade. When it was flush, I sanded down the high side with sanding sticks. This brought back the curvature, and didn’t leave any flat spots.
Jerry - Monogram is the only company to produce an injection molded C-47 in 1/48. I’m unaware of it’s availability in vac kits. You can probably find them on eBay, or wait for it to be rereleased. Monogram is pretty good about doing that.
Thanks Brian, Fred, Thad, Steve, Mike, Aviator, Gilmund, and Joe !
Fred - I did the lines from one side of the fuselage to the other first. I rocked a new #11 blade, which kept these pretty straight. The longitudinal ones were done by drawing the blade along the line, one panel at a time. I found it pretty easy to keep the lines straight that way.
Steve - my problem was the Alcad on the wings. I painted them twice, and dust settled both times. I’m hoping to paint them again soon, now that I can keep the windows open. It will be done this summer, if I can.
I hope to paint it within the next couple of days. I have a couple of comission builds that I’m doing right now also. Those have to take priority over my own stuff.
Look pretty darn good. I was lucky enough to get a ride on one of those. Boy are they loud and uncomfortable. The plane I flew on was one of the rpoiginals used on D-day too.
